| Some super comments on here , and rightly so, somewhere in between these comments is the answer why he was sacked. If you only have access to a limited number of players who are contracted for a guaranteed period of time with a salary cap that cannot be exceeded, then you don't off players by saying they have no future at the club and the club do not want you. It's OK saying on here that Furner was to get rid of the crap, but there is a right way of doing it and a wrong way. It's clear that whoever thought they could give the players this information without any repercussions then they are deluded. He lost the players, the camp is divided between those who like Furner and those who do not. He has made a rod for his own back and Sinfield had no choice but to sack him.
It could not continue as it was when half the team was playing for him the others wasn't.
Everyone has commented about how poor we have been and the defence was bad, but for the first 10 matches he kept playing the same team with few changes. It was clear to all that he had his favourites and certain players would not be dropped. Yes we have shot ourselves in the foot, no one likes changes, but the answer is he should never have been made the coach in the first place, he was out of his depth, he is the wrong man for such a big job,

| Quote: Gotcha "Hall and Watkins were our registered marquee players then. Taking Merrin and Hurrell out of the equation, the squad of players was much better then. However, Merrin and Hurrell are better than the best then.
But surely you can not in the slightest way argue our halfs currently are up to the same standard? Halfs massively make a difference. Nor do we have the same Cuthbertson and Parcell of that team.'"
According to quotes from Sinfield, this is the first time we have had any marquee players. Maybe you know better?
Agree regarding the half's, even a past his best McGuire is better than Myler. Moon was far better than Lolohea.
Parcell and Cuthbertson did look far better players, maybe due to better coaching.
That squad included Keinhorst, Walters, Mullally and Garbutt, all players released by the club.
We have gone backwards since BM left. I know that is not a popular position to hold on here, but that is how see it.

So many Leeds fans totally deluded!'" Sorry for the confusion. What I meant to say was that the squad and coaching staff have changed, in the main through the clubs choice. We have supposedly strengthened, yet are miles away from the performances of 18 months ago.

| I'm disappointed that he has been sacked. It's a bad start to the season but we've seen a slight upturn in results. I'm a season of rebuilding there are going to be bumps.
However, those saying he is a scapegoat are a little wide if the mark. In the games I've seen the players don't seem bothered, and the defense in the middle and in the line is woeful.
Both of those lie with the coach I'm afraid. We have a squad full of rubbish, but it's not the worst group of players in the competition. As a coach he has to get the most out of his squad. He hasn't done that, not even close

Think Sinfield has been misquoted there. Yes I know better, but only because Hetherington announced it the other year about Hall and Watkins been our registered Marquee, due to only £100k of their salary counting on the cap as club developed.
We haven’t gone backwards, and we haven’t gone forwards as we haven’t improved the players. We couldn’t go any more backwards than where we were this time last season. The club was destroyed under McDermotts stewardship, but Hetherington should be held equally responsible for that, for letting him do it.

How do you do that without the backing of the management? I mean it doesn’t look like they have backed him. Perhaps certain players knew this, and hence the lack of desire and effort.

I think the only possible caveat is that I'm not sure how well his approach would work straight away with a team without the quality or character required to be the best, if that's what the problem is at Leeds. The demands he makes on his players are massive, which is exactly what you need, but maybe that sort of shock therapy would be counter-productive to begin with for a team on its backside. The 'lesser' players that Wigan had in later years were still brought into the culture that had been there for years, lead by O'Loughlin & others, and then it was up to the new fella to step up. Not so easy to build a culture like that from scratch.
That said, totally agree with what you say, there's no doubt in my mind that he would be successful in the medium & long term at Leeds if he goes there. Hopefully his reputation as a knuckle-dragging thug who hates everything outside of a WN postcode will mean someone else gets the job!'"

| It is the first time we have had Marquee players , Hall and Watkins have never been on more than 150K . I would think Merrin and Hurrel are on 250K plus , of which only 150K for each player is counted in the salary cap .

Your wrong. Look back on the YEP. And your miles off Halls wage there. Hall and Watkins only £100k counted on cap.

You’re not wrong here. Plus, Watkins partly funded on a central contract so less on the cap, plus England international which is more off the cap.

| I'm very surprised, but I guess something had to give. Phil Gould a while ago said that it just sometimes reaches a point when players stop playing and its them or the coach. Its happened quickly this time, but you wonder if the same thing was happening under BM as well.
Now the onus is well and truly on the players. We've been terrible for almost two full years, and 3 out of the last 4, with a chunk of the squad here over the whole period.
That means only one of two things - either the players that are playing badly are genuinely not good enough, or they simply haven't been putting in the effort. Regardless of which is the answer to that one any players in either camp need to be got rid of over time - we don't want sub-par players and we definitely do not want players who only play when they want to.
How the team plays in the near future will tell us a lot about which camp some of our apparent duffers are in.
