Unless of course we are moving heaven on earth behind the scenes to get someone in for pre season.
The club could offer to pay part of a players contract in order to move them on.
Huddersfield did this with Brough to Wakefield.
Maybe we stick with what we have got and hope the likes of Mullaley and Ormandroyd do the business.
Funnily enough I would have been happy to get Gadwin Springer from Cas as he always looks pretty handy when I`ve seen him play.

The point is how much can you miss a big portion of salary cap that is sat in the stands more often than not?
I have to trust in Sir Kev and co if they think someone is not of "Leeds materiel" and think we would be better off without than with.
I agree that we still need to stregnthen in the front row but it has to be on a balanced book and it seems obvious that we are still trying to offload some SC to make way, this will take as long as it takes. I think we are finally in the transtion phase that we have all been calling for for so long and it will not happen overnight. We have made great strides forwards in marquee signings but dont kid yourself if you think we will be in the running for silverware this coming season

So you are agreeing with Bang & most others then that we still need at least 1 quality Prop?
Wrt balancing the books this highlights what a ridiculous call it was to renew deals for Mullally Walters Ablett & Ornanroyd in particular none are worth a starting 17 spot.

I get the point with Walters etc..but the ship has sailed so little point still bashing people with it.

Also, just because they aren't worth a starting spot doesn't mean we don't need them. Its a squad game and we will get injuries. You're not going to build a squad of 30 world class players. The salary cap stops this.

I would wait until after boxing day before assuming signings are over.

We dont need any of them Oledsjzki is above Mullally as is Crosby now. Any of Merrin Cam Smith Alex Suttcliffe all better than Ablett & Ormanroyd & then pick any from Holroyd Mustapha Mconnel or Trout for Walters spot. All already signed & part of the squad.

Agree with this. It may well take another year or so to remake the squad in the post McD era. I'm going to just put this out there: Leeds looked a different side with Garbutt on the field this year, and I'd suggest we may not have been in the qualifiers at all had he stayed fit all year. We'll never know: but that is the difference a solid pack makes IMO.
When Tony Smith arrived, he got the team playing the energy battle and winning. Last year we were losing the energy battle most weeks, playing gassed, leaking points and making errors as a result.
We absolutely needed a stand off and a centre, and I like Merrin too so no problems with the signings. The club has been rumoured to be chasing Ikahihifo which, if true, is probably the right kind of profile. I'm sure they see the same things the fans do with the current front row.
Surely there must be a gun prop in the NRL we could tempt across just for one year while Oledski, Holroyd and Dupree continue their development and/or we can free up some more cap space...? If someone is 4th choice in a good side over there, they could still do a job at Leeds until our own talent comes through.

The back row is looking really good, with plenty of injury cover. I still think JJB and Ablett have something to offer if spelled; Merrin, Smith, Ward would make a very nice back row and then you've another couple of younger lads knocking on the door, Ferres, Cuthbo, Peteru could cover too. Parcell is a light hooker which makes it even more important to have some size in the props, and that's still where I'm not happy. Will be interesting to see who they play up front in the Boxing Day game, unless they're going to mess about playing JJB there or whatever...

By all accounts we have a decent crop of youngsters but you can't just lob them all in at once. You will totally ruin them.

They need to be fed in for stints when they are ready and when the team can accommodate and support them.

Nobody disputes that in an ideal world some more of the lesser players would have left but to just expect a bunch of young lads with no SL experience to just step up is naive at best.
