| Quote: Ferdy "Well done peacock well deserved.
On the McIlroy it's a bizarre comparison to peacock. Yes he won 1 major which is a international field, but he has won several other tourniments, achieved no 2 in the world fighting for top spot and a Ryder cup win.
Rugby league struggles for recognition as they cannot win anything internationally'"
Nail on the head!
Rugby League will struggle to collect nationally recognised awards because it has little to no international profile or credibility. And as for the meagre offerings of international RL which actually do exist, we still aren't even close to being good enough to be successful and win anything meaningful.
If any current player has earned the opportunity to bow, scrape, cringe and fawn in honour of ma'am and tug his forlock in deference to the class system, then it's Jamie Peacock. However, I'd be far more impressed if he'd collected a medal by skippering GB or England to an Ashes Series win or a World Cup success.

Jamie Peacock has done his job well which is evident from the amount of honours he has won in the game whenever it’s winning trophies, captaincy for his country or recognised as best prop forward in the world at his peak. Going by your logic should we stop rewarding players places on dream teams and recognising them as man of steal because they’re just doing their job?

Jamie Peacock - 7 Grand Final wins, 2 Challenge Cup wins, 3 World Club Challenge wins, Man of Steel winner, 47 caps for England & Great Britain, captain of the country since 2005.
Rory McIlroy - 1 US Open win.
Whilst McIlroy might well deserve something in the future if he continues as he's started, it goes to show how hard you have to work in RL to get some recognition.'"
What about Garry Schofield, did he get his OBE for winning the Yorkshire Cup?

| I've got this image of JP's Luca Brasi-esque acceptance speech on the day of the ceremony.

These medals are supposed to be awarded for services over and beyond the call of duty - so are saying that anyone who is particularly good at their job should get one of these?
I would agree re the dream team - complete and utter waste of time - completely meaningless award.
MOS is slightly different but again it is so open to abuse that the best player rarely wins it - so is it really worth much?

Mr Lister the majority of your posts don't deserve a reply such is the banality of its content. On this I think these awards should go to the coaches who give up their spare time to coach kids for nothing rather than one high profile player who is simply doing his day job as a member of a team unit.

| A player that captain's his national side is not just doing his day job as a member of a team unit. He has been entrusted with leading his country on a sports field and while that in itself doesn't warrant automatic recognition I imagine it has a significant role to play when added to the rest he has achieved throughout his playing career.

We must agree to differ - the role of captain is completely overblown - unless you are Lockyer where your position dictates your influence. Peacock as a prop will spend a considerable amount of the game away from the field of play?
These awards should be given to those who otherwise would not get any recognition for the value they bring to their community.

Bev Risman has contributed much to the development of junior RL and as such his award is worthy.'"

The role of captaining your national side is not limited to the eighty minutes during a game but requires said player to also (along with the coach) undertake onerous media responsibilities both pre and post match and become a main focus for attention.
(As an aside Peacock in doing so steps well outside what I imagine to be his personal comfort zone.)
