| Quote: NickyKiss "Wane would do a great job for Leeds. You do not win 3 grand finals, a challenge cup and a WCC solely on the back of another coaches foundations. I think it’s forgotten sometimes that he played a big part in laying those foundations anyway as Maguire assistant and from the work he’d done with the junior teams for years previously. He also didn’t have the luxury Maguire had in 2011 of being given three internationals from the Melbourne Storm to work with and instead he had to deal with departures of key personnel year in year out and he somehow managed to make sure we remained in the trophy hunt.
I think we’re seeing at Wigan now just how much his absence is being felt. I would hate for him to become the coach of Leeds because I’m convinced he’d win things for them. He would be a god send for all those young players Leeds had involved in the England academy series win for starters.'"
I agree with you,his departure from Wigan will have ramifications for the club for the next few years, that he left without a real explanation is a puzzler too
I think he is just the man for Leeds, sas to say he would need time as they clearly in a mess but he would sort it,now is down to see if GH and Sinfield have the nerve to appoint him?

| Quote: Brodie123 "Things have been going backwards for a while, and Furner was making his own job untenable irrespective to what others are saying. There is a lot more to this than meets the eye, everyone at Headingley are being tight lipped, but it did start some weeks ago at Stanningley, when GH KS met with Furner, it's funny how a month later he's gone.
What has happened, everyone on here has been saying how players have been told they can leave and there is no future for certain players and they have been told this. Like the players or not if your one of the players who have been given this information then why play for a coach who doesn't want you or a club who wants you to go quietly. It's never going to happen and this has been reflected in the team performance, either Furner or Sinfields man management has been a disgrace. Furner has lost his job because the team have not performed for him, and if he would not have been sacked then Sinfield would have had to go.
The Club have to start changing its culture, some of the decisions made have been shocking at best. Players given long contracts then shipped out to Fetherstone, out of the club, old players given new contracts, JJB and Ablett, James Lowe being made short term Head coach ( one big joke), on the other hand Furner has signed some quality but when watching the team there has always been something missing, Commitment springs to mind. Sinfield is now the man under pressure, Relegation is still on the table along with a debt of £23million. You don't fill a stadium playing rubbish and losing games as we have been doing and with over 3,000 corporate seats to fill you need to get it right on the pitch.
Leeds need a top quality coach not a cheap option, and the first job that the coach needs to do is to build a spirit of togetherness, you cannot force players under contract out of the door, but as contracts expire you can then move them on, you do not mickey off players in the middle of contracts. This time the club have to get this right'"
Agree with most of this, You raise a key point about man mangagement and team spirit in RL is critical. We don't know if Sinfield or Furner has been looking to move players on but Seeing Sinfield is director of rugby it seems hard to believe he was not involved, did he not give that steer to Peter Smith pre-season. We've seen Lilley, mullally, Walters, ormandroyd go.
Allegedly, Golding, cuthbo, Parcell and others being told they can go, you are never going to get much team spirit with that going on. Ultimate blame lies with GH for this.
IF there is no replacement lined up it seems crazy to me. Listened to Sinfield on Radio Leeds and he said agar in theory could be there for rest of season and stability was key. I nearly choked, how can he talk about stability after sacking a guy in 14 games?
I was away last week but got a text from my son on Friday afternoon before the Salford game, said he had seen Agar in his gym, he said he was going to have a word with him but backed off because "he looked angry".
Sinfield and GH are now under big pressure, having exited Lowes and now Furner I hope this is not GH just cutting costs and getting Agar to carry the can on the cheap.
It's feels as shambolic as the 80's

Agree with you and cherry and white, the 2 teams that played in the c cup final in 2011 were miles ahead of the 2 sides today. Wane got trophies with poorer sides as did McD in 2017. Of course the rest of SL were poorer as welI? IF it's true that Furner was being too demanding on the players, Wane would be too much as well.

| Quote: christopher "And how do you get rid of contracted players just like that? Its nothing to do with Furner not being allowed to, its not as simple as that.
If true Furner is being unrealistic in what he wanted and should have got on with using his coaching ability to get the best out of the players he has.'"
Hang on he could still indicate who he didn't want to award new deals to and confirm that others were available that isn't unheard of in any sport.
also lets not forget Sinfield started giving the players notices of their availability BEFORE FURNER even arrived.

| I'd be interested to know whether JJB's back spasm was genuine last time out.

It's not nearly the same squad is it! Not even close, we've moved out a dozen or more new faces including Danny Mags!
So many Leeds fans totally deluded!

| Furner has been coach for 6 months and 14 games ,when the club came in for Turner there will have been discussions and agreements about what to do when Furner came up with his findings about the squad. After the first couple of disappointing results a well known Ex Leeds player who didnt play at the same time as Furner told me he said I know Furner and he wont stand for this much longer , he will get rid .

| It's looking to all intents and purposes as if the club have shot themselves in the foot here, potentially because Furner differed from KS & GH on his views on the qualities of some of our players? Jesus!
Here's hoping El Presidente and Sir Kev can explain how things are going to get better having made this change? After all, we were told to expect a reaction from the players after McDermott was sacked, and many of us are still waiting for that. If they haven't got anyone better to come in, I'm struggling to see how this can be a positive change, unless Furner was simply to blame for everything, which I find very difficult to believe.
If GH & KS seriously think it is Furner's fault that the players are not performing to play-off standards, and the likes of Ashton Golding will turn our season around, they could be in for a very rude awakening.
For all the knee-jerkers who called for this, I hope you are happy.

I couldn’t agree more with this.
Those nonsensically questioning making players available need to wake up. It is a salary cap sport, they need to manage within that. Persevering with players not in plans is stupid. He was told to do a specific job, rebuild. Rebuilding means changes, he had to try and move players on. Have those players reacted in the right manner? That tells you all you need to know.

Cause it's his fault he picks the side he comes up with the tactics he coaches them, the results and performances have been awfull it's his job to get the best out of the players not go "the players are crap get rid of some off them as I can't get anything out of them" if he cannot get the best out of them and improve them then he should not be the coach and has rightly been sacked, he has taken the side backwards. The buck stops with him, if we were mid table and 7-8 wins and the squad was digging in hard and playing with effort, and he was saying that's as good as I can get from the players I gave got, then fair enough, but we are in relagation zone. He had to go.

No, we are not in the relegation zone!
Second; how TF can he legislate for Lolohea jumping backwards away from a tackle. How can he coach Walker, Myler and Sutcliffe not to kick the ball out on the Fekkin full!? Is it his fault the world class centre and club captain has come back this year and has forgot where to stand and how to run quickly.
I get he carries the can but many of the players are a total disgrace.

| How do you know he hasn't got the best out of these players? Let's be honest for a long time now these players haven't been any better.
Do you expect players like JJB, Ferres, Cuthbo, Myler, Tui, Donaldson, Sutcliffe Ablett, Crosby etc to suddenly improve? If so, why?
Weve been told all year to be patient and to let the club rebuild yet the club seems to be making knee jerk reactions left right and centre at every defeat.
I will be honest the thought of another forward coaching us in Furner filled me with dread but Dave served us well as a player, he was a real pro, a rugby man and a decent bloke in my opinion and he deserved a chance to rebuild the club and that was always going to take time.
The decision has been taken so let's see what happens now.
