| Quote Bang="Bang"Let's not pretend were in any kind of position to turn our nose up at Gareth Widdop
Not sure why/how some of our fans get this sort of attitude?
If someone of Widdop's calibre is available, as a club you should do all you possibly can to try and sign them - as I've mentioned before'"
Not when he isn’t needed. We have a new standoff who could play fullback but then again we have two good young players there.
We need another forward agreed he is good but not what we need at the moment

| I’d love it if we signed widdop. Sign him for 2020 and pay off myler. These opportunities for this standard of player don’t come around too often. Build the team around him.
However, sadly I can’t see it happening

| Shaun Johnson could be available for a year before signing for the Roosters. Although, with Widdop wanting out, Johnson will probably end up at St George.
Apparently, Widdop is homesick. Is he referring to Melbourne or Halifax? He has 3 years left on his contact, and is reportedly on £600k a year, so I'm assuming Warrington are the only club with the war chest for that kind of salary.

| Johnson needs a 1yr deal as he's signed with a club for 2020 onwards.
Widdop is leaving St George in 2020

In that case I reckon we too can comfortably fit him under the cap

| We can't just sign any and every good player that becomes available on the market. For a start, we already have our quota or Marquee players contracted for 3 years. Secondly, we must be at or close to the salary cap - so any more players in should mean more players out first.
The other point is the balance of the team; positionally and commercially.
Commercially, sinking £500-600k on one player with an overall cap of £2m is crazy when you have another 29ish players' salaries to cover. Especially given the risky nature of injury in rugby league. Those kind of salaries might make sense in the NRL 9.6million AUS$, which is roughly £5.5m. The main reason the NRL is so much stronger than Super League is right there in those cap figures, so SL clubs have to shop very wisely from that market to bring good value players across.
Positionally, we don't need another half with Lolohea, Myler (although I'm not a huge fan personally), McLelland at the club. We are a bit thin if we get injuries there but far more urgent for me would be prop (the proper Garbutt replacement if you will) and possibly then wing depending on how Handley and L Briscoe turn out this year. Even at prop, I'm more relaxed about it once Holroyd, Dupree, Oledzki have another year or two under their belts as I reckon one or two of them may well cement a 1st grade spot.
We've had a bit of a silly season recently with transfers and it's been nice to be linked with real star names for once, but realistically I think the 2019 squad is formed, with the potential for that one additional prop still.
