| Quote: Rugbyfann "Was good to get the win last night and important that we did, but we are forever having problems on the outside defence due to the strange defensive set up. If the line came up as one and tracked better, there'd be fewer holes to be exposed.
Prime example of this was when brown went through a massive gap inside Sutcliffe because he shot up 4/5 yards ahead of his inside player. However it is a work in progress especially as we had Sutcliffe, Keinhorst and BJB playing one side for the first time together.
Having said that it also happened through the middle with players shooting up much quicker than the next man and we gave away 2/3 tries with this type of dog legged line.
Think the defensive line/structure does need to be looked at but I think this will also generally improve as the weeks pass with these new combinations together.'"
Agreed, you either all shoot up or you take a slower solid line to meet the attack, sutcliffe caused issues for keinhorst and then BJB all game shooting up a number of times and once the sky biys piinted it out to was almost every single time that he rushed way beyond his inside and outside defender. Keinhorst missed a couple, more he come back to his position so the effort and actually tackling is there. Mis communication and a simply good read from Hanbury led to the full length try and he did turn Zak inside and out. Work to be done, but it looked liked some raw talent across the park just needed some direction and time spent playing with each other.
Switching Hall to the right I think would be a good move and steady the right edge, check the stats and that side had at least triple the traffice from Widnes and you have to expect Sutcliffe, keinhorst and returning BJB to come up with errors with that type of workload....

| An interesting game all round - lacking in quality but still worth watching. Burrow was my MOM I thought really stood up to be counted and handled the younger players admirably. JJB also had his best game in ages - another senior player who accepted responsibility and seemed to thrive on it.
The younger players didn't let anyone down - Baldwinson looked the real deal no wonder the NRL is calling. Singleton is a throw back, a prop who will run through a brick wall. Sutcliffe showed some neat footwork but is defence needs some work and Minns looked much comfortable in a more central role. Hopefully he will start on Sunday with Moon now suspended. Keinhorst looked very slow last night - it didn't help having Sutcliffe close by in the line but I am far from convinced he is of the requisite standard.
I agree with Gareth re McShane and his stamina, he reminds me of Andy Speak in that respect plenty of skill but question marks about his engine. Moon concerns me, he throws one decent pass in five no wonder Hall is looking out of sorts. Although one in five is better than none when Zac was his centre. Talking of which another strong performance he ran Burrow close for MOM. Good to see Jones-Bishop return.
On the negative Kirke was abject last night, Clarkson not much better and Achurch looks like adding to the list a poor overseas signing - sadly you get what you pay for.

Im sure i read somewhere recently that with the big success of the likes of the Burgess bros. Graham and Ellis,Aus Clubs were going to be taking a much bigger interest in Forwards from the British game.Wouldnt surprise me if they do have scouts over trying to spot the best young ones before they have to pay to dollar down the line.

at last we get an accurate and unbiased post from sal
although you we're a bit economical with the truth and did fail to mention that jjb backed up from england duty on friday night when he made 49 tackles and ran his blood to water, although he did miss a couple of tackles too
keep up your new years resolution sal even if it is june

| Have to agree with Maximillion regarding defensive errors, maybe a lack of communication and experience playing with the new guys but also what looked like an umbrella style defensive (whilst dropping the winger) was also going to expose the edges and they did this particularly well down our right. Yes Keinhorst looked poor in defence but difficult to say that it was all his fault. Also over heard some guys (possibly friends or family)saying that he has had a stomach bug the past few days and not eaten properly (losing half a stone) which would explain the apparent lack of pace and fitness. Not heard anything about Baldwinson though.

That would explain his strangely non-committal performance: usually he's nothing if not tenacious...

You didn't hear it from me, but Dean Bell and the NZ Warriors have taken a VERY keen interest in him. VERY.

| The other week on yorkshire radio 's rugby show the players agent who represents danny McGuire was pointing out that Aussie clubs are looking at English imports from a young age. Part of the issue is the fairly small wages the under 19s get over here.the removal of the reserve league and dual registration hasn't helped.

And which clubs chairman was the leader of that proposal?

| Talking of interviews, McDermott's post-match press conference is worth a look. Interesting insight into his attitude to injured players - unusual as usual. Also suggests Ablett and Kylie could be back for Huddersfield.
Oh, and Kirke's performance last night: "outstanding".

Yes I saw this and the good point was that he was not too critical of the younger players regarding some obvious defensive lapses and he was looking to bring that rogether over the next few performances, so hopefully we will see some consistency. Ablett and Kylie back, both certainly for Huddesfield in the pack, Achurch and one other to miss out for me
