That's what the glamour signings, who are in their 30's, usually do at Hull.'"

| Good signing for Hull.
A second rower won't turn you from also rans to winners (as i think someone has written above), but players like ellis have always formed a part of winning teams and hull are starting to accumulate more and more of these type of players.

yeah well said. our recruitment of late has been a tad disappointing, but hey ho i'm sure we'll secure the right players when needed.

Personally I accepted that we wouldn't immedaitely become world beaters overnight, but the change since Pearson took over and now this signing gives me optimism that Hull are slowly building to be up in the top levels of SL.
If we can start challenging the likes of you (putting up a decent show at Headingley would be something) then I'll be happy.
Your success didn't happen overnight - it came after a lot of hard work and frustration. We've had the frustration, now the hard work starts and who knows what's next.

| Not sure I am too bothered about losing out on him.
Whilst many on here will point out that a good second rower does not give the right to be a top winning side.
It does bring it`s advantages of securing other signings maybe from Australia who want to play with the likes of Ellis I guess.
Nobody will know how much he wanted or how much we offered if anything.
So no point going down that route.
I`m sure Howes will be happy with the outcome though.
I`m not going to wish Ellis good luck as I hope he fails in his choice of clubs

Well done FC for securing him, they've done very well there. We have either been toally out bid or we didn't feel he was worth the money and i wonder if we have decided we would sooner spend it on securing the likes of Watkins etc'"
Yes, it's kind of dissapointing but if we're honest the signing of ellis would have just been a bonus, not a necessity. We don't really need a second rower who can fill in at centre (as good as ellis is) when we already have delaney and ablett, and while it's pointless to speculate on the amounts of money involved it's pretty clear ellis won't have come cheap.
So to sign him we'd have had to use a likely sizeable amount of money for a player in a position we are pretty well stocked up on, and even if we did make a bid and match or even better hull's offer he's obviously decided they are the better option at this point in his career, which is fair enough.

Obviously it's a good signing, but Hull need to sort out their youth policy if they want sustained success. There's been a complete underdevelopment of local players given the amount of them there must be in the area. You have a good back row now, but they're all bought in and that's not sustainable. Compare to Leeds, Wigan and St.Helens, who not uncoincidentally have been getting to all the finals.

Was it KH's fault Cooke wanted to play for HKR?
Likewise was it her fault how the Gleeson scandal was handled?
As for poor signings most of the ones you are now lauding as good players were signed under her regime and as for coaches Kear won you a CC did he not?
Mcrae did ok but had to leave and Sharp took you to a GF as for backing Agar again was that soley down to her?
A lot of blame laid at her door which she had little or no control over but then again it's easy to blame her rather than admit the whole club made mistakes and aren't as big or as good as you lot think you are.

| A strong Hull team makes for a better league and Ellis will improve them, no doubt.
From our perspective, we seem to have little difficulty in sourcing players good enough to win trophies. TBH I'd rather experience the excitement of seeing a new young player develop than re-signing a face from the past, however good.

KH was in charge and cookes contract wasnt signed...She appointed Agar and backed him all the way, even though the results was terrible and the brand of rugby dished up.She was Chairwoman/owner so why wasnt she held responsible? We have known for 4 yrs we arent any good...2 bottom 2 finishes and a whimper in the play-offs prove that.Pearson said the club was ran as a bottom 4 club with the facilities etc,etc......end of the day,we are gradually improving week in week out and it will take us time to climb up again......How long did it take for you to get where you are.

And so would we....we have already played 3 this season in Nicklas,Bowden and Jamie Ellis and that is 3 more than Agar ever did...he just didnt play the young ones and switched players rd all over the place.Kent and Crooks have also been part of the 19 man squad and have a young winger in Lineham who is looking very good.

Fair comment - we are starting to develop our youngsters now. Unfortunately, despite having some good young lads, the previous regime preferred to keep them separate from the first team and to bring in loans if spots in the matchday side needed filling (Broughton, McShane etc). As I said things are changing slowly, but Bowden and Nicklas have made their debuts this year and Kent and Crooks have been in the 19 a couple of times, so we're getting there.
