Why on God's Green Earth would we sign a new Full Back for next year?

As NE has already said, BJB, Smith & Hardaker are all full backs by trade?! They're all under 24.


If we sign a new Full Back instead of giving Ben Jones-Bishop it, then our academy structure has failed miserably.

I agree that we should not be going anywhere near a new full back with the young talent we have, but if we did it wouldn't be academy system failing it would be the recruitment which have failed!

And three years distant from his best form, which saw him gain international honours.

Sadly, the sort of player we're likely to see on a more regular basis in SL. Younger players won't want to jeopardise potential rep selection. and the changes in relative currency value makes moving to the UK less attractive.

The "retirement fund" players, those run out of the NRL in scandals and fringe players in search of a first grade wage packet are about all we can expect to see in the coming years IMO.

I totally agree Andy. It would be ironic if the reduction in overseas players came about simply because the clubs couldn't even get the level of player we are used to and realised it was better to play a "cheaper" local kid than a more expensive non-local "has been or never was".

I'd be surprised to see him return to SL. Last I heard he is really enjoying life out there and wants to stay long term.

In any case, it's not like we are (or will be) short of second rowers for the foreseeable....
