And many others enjoy a fantastic lifestyle post playing career. I would argue Leeds in the SL era offer umpteen opportunities for their players to educate themselves / develop post playing career strategies.

Their career is over at 35, they are not qualified or trained in anything other than RL. Admittedly at a club like Leeds who have enough money floating around, there is a possibility of getting some kind of degree or diploma but I doubt the same is true at some of the smaller, cash strapped clubs. Plus even at Leeds I would imagine only so many first teamers will be enrolled on a degree course each year.
I wish there was enough money in the game to pay the players 2,3 or even 4 times as much as they currently get paid.

Judging by some of the sale prices, there is a big demand for the items, so why the hell not? Everything has a price.

If I were Keef I’d be putting all I have under the hammer. Once his playing career is over (which won’t be more than a year or two away) his regular income will drop like a stone and even if he does decide to go into coaching or similar it’ll take at least a few years before he’s earning a reasonable wage.

I say “good on him” – making hay while the sun shines springs to mind because in 20 years this stuff will be worth a fraction of what it is now.

There are so many examples - One of the greatest players ever to play our game went on to be a caretaker at a primary school in Wakey (for 20-30 years)...can you imagine that happening to Bobby Charlton or Geoff Hurst

People forget that RL players aren't made for life and don't have guaranteed media opportunities like footballers.

Sir Bobby Moore ended up as a local radio pundit, unable to get anything out of the game, so it's not exactly unheard of.

Modern footballers are of course different, their salaries mean they're set for life, unlike many from previous generations and virtually all RL players.
