| I'm getting excited for next year and i'm delighted at the clubs obviuos ambition to return to where we belong pushing for honours.
Still think we need another prop and it's time for Singleton to stand up and be counted

Singleton has patches in a season where he looks very, very good. But he needs partner props who have more punch in the line. He's more of an awkward, durable bugger in the Jamie Peacock mould. Oledzki, Holroyd and Dupree will be fantastic when they've developed but we need at least one more proper prop for 2019.
Completely agree about the ambition in our signings though, isn't it refreshing to see after years of complacency? You could see the squad was going backwards despite 2017, and still the club ignored the signs.

I'd have said a more committed Ryan Bailey myself. Whatever, he definitely has a role to play IMO.

Yep possibly. Peacock wasn't a great impact forward: what he would do is go at the opposition all day and never shirk the tough carry or tackle. He was brilliant at grinding the opposition down and a brilliant psychological leader for the pack. It's interesting as well that we were told how Singleton, Ferres and Ward were all leaders last year, but actually the club has bust a gut with the sniff around SOL and signing Merrin to recruit a new pack leader.

If we can snag Ikahihifo and keep him fit, this Leeds squad has a real quality about it suddenly. If JJB, Ferres, Parcell end up moving on for 2020 that should enable us to bring through the best Academy lads too, and finally we're looking reasonably balanced. Furner has his work cut out to apply some new systems and structures in time for the new season, with a lot of fresh faces.

| Quote Brodie123="Brodie123"Following a meeting with one of the Directors last week, he did discuss one or two points that have been raised on here. Concern was about fitness with some of the players and some players have been given the hard word regarding fitness, players on good salaries missing half a season and every season. Steve Ward has had a meeting so has Garbutt, and although the Garbutt issue was much more than a rumour, I was advised if he wants to go he can go and a replacement has already been earmarked.
He said Merrin was a done deal but that was before this weekend, he said like Furner Merrin was not prepared to comment on gossip, so guys it may be the case that he is still coming.
They now have two marquee players for next season, this must be the two that they have just signed, but it does not stop them paying high wages to top class players, you can pay players whatever money you want it's the total salary cap that is the issue whereas in nominating two Marquee players only a proportion of their salary goes towards the salary cap. He also mentioned a number of other players who have Ben told they can leave the club, Walters, Mullally , Golding and one or two others but I can't remember their names.
So chaps either I was fed a load rubbish or they maybe a couple more in comings and outgoings over the next few weeks'"
You guys have little faith in what I said, when Sinners met up with Merrin, Merrin gave him his word that he was signing for Leeds and like Furner both have kept their word. Already another NRL prop has been lined up to replace Garbutt. Keep the faith chaps.
Tom Johnston from Wakefield is not joining he is on top money and we cannot afford him, he would take up too much of the salary cap, he is one of the highest earners at Wakefield. its a shame he is a good lad with electric pace. I think given the opportunity he would walk to Leeds having spoken to him.
Lets see what happens over the next week.

| Quote KaeruJim="KaeruJim"It will be interesting to see where they play Merrin. He's not gone so well at prop last season; most of his highlight reel is as a backrower. Given the interest Leeds had in SOL, I suspect Merrin has been lined up for 13 in a similar vein. I would rather play Oledzki at prop than Cuthbertson at this stage. Or you could play Ward, Merrin in the second row with Cuthbo at 13. I think Ablett and JJB off the bench keeps them fresher and adds safe pair of hands at crucial times. If Ikahihifo still comes, and comes as a prop, we may have the missing link there and look pretty competitive.'"
I think this would seem to be the case, but still could go to prop this year or next, it did take JP a couple of years to really adjust from back to front row. 13 this year then gradually move to prop .

if Ikahihifo comes in from Huddersfield that may complete our squad for next year, maybe have a space for some in season signings if we off load a few. If merrin is at 13 for next year anyway we do need one more prop for next season.

yes he was very good back end of 2017 really looked like a new pack leader, but was pretty average to poor last year, new coach new confidence hopefully.

I think by the end of the year most players were busted mentally and physically to be honest. The few quality players which were still taking the field were having to do far too much. It's not about throwing the baby out with the bathwater: the signings we've made are addressing most of the issues we had.
