Nobody reads newspapers anymore. I assume you watch tv.

I didn't say that they are easily manipulated as opposed to anyone else nor that Remain voters are wiser or done their homework.
But that kind of silly over reaction does somewhat sum-up many people's views on the EU.
I'll say it again - people on the Leave side thinking Boris Johnson is/was leading a rebellion against the Establishment. That kind of thinking can ONLY be borne from either a manipulation via the media (they've been told he/they are anti-establishment) or an ignorance (they don't know).
The work on making Boris a patriotic yet anti-establishment figure began long ago. The bumbling but "likeable" act.
This situation was long planned by the Tory party.

| What did Dave like to say throughout this shambles - 'Brits don't quit' - who is the first out the door the morning after.
Tells you everything you need to know.

| Morning all. An historic moment for democracy in action. The great British public voted against the government and the government machine, all the main political parties, big fat cat business, so called experts, the Govenor of the Bank of England, and various world figures like the President of the US. In addition they had to endure a torrent of hysterical fear mongering and threats and name calling yet, bless them, they refused to bend.
Now we are seeing the excuses being rolled out by the arrogant losers who cannot accept that they were out of touch and read it wrong. They are blaming austerity, a protest vote, racism, xenophobia, little Englanders and anything else other than having to admit that the majority of the public do not like the EU and they don't like to be bullied either.
What is clear is that the remainers and some of their supporters are not good democrats. Not only did they ignore the key democratic argument in leaving the EU but now we are seeing their scorn for the democratic result with their insults and name calling against the majority of the electorate.
The Remainers have stoked the doom and gloom and economic disaster fire to such an extent that they arrogantly did not consider the consequences if they lost. They are as much to blame and have a big responsibility for the way the markets have reacted so it will need some about turns on their wild predictions to now calm things down.
The Prime Minister who played the lead Flashman role had been saying we are not a nation of quitters and having been defeated was ironically the first to actually quit!
So well done to those brave folk who refused to be bullied. Once we get over the initial instability I look forward to building a more democratic future with our elected government of the day in control of all the key levers of government. I also anticipate this result leading to major reforms of the EU for the benefit of its voters. It will take time but be worth it in the end.

| Hang in there Juan. The majority of British people did not vote to leave the EU.
And you cannot ignore issues such as austerity and protest votes when the margin of victory is so small.
You make some good points about the Remain campaign and the doom-mongering. That's been true all along, but that wasn't a one way street as the Leave campaign were doing exactly the same just focused on immigration rather than the economy.

Are your eyes bleary from reading the Guardian this morning or are they clouded by tears from hearing the result? Where did I say the majority of the British people? I said the majority of the electorate.
You cannot ignore that the underdog won on the day and voted to leave the EU. Of course there will be various reasons for people's decisions on both sides including Remainers voting selfishly for their own interests or being taken in by the fear stories. The issues were clear enough and at least half the country are anti EU as in many other EU countries which is something the Remainers, the markets and the "experts" totally misread. Talking of experts I see they got it wrong again as polling closed with the pound soaring before the first results.

So this wasn't a vote on the EU at all - it was a vote on the Tory government!!
The winning margin was c1.3m votes so I would suggest a reasonably clear cut majority - guarantee if the numbers had been the other way round you would not have been suggesting the margin of victory as "so small"
The remain campaign got what was coming - their stunts were quite simply outrageous, to suggest if we left we would have an immediate budget and rises in income tax etc was a dirty trick unsurpassed by anything the leave side did.
Personally I think this is greatest country on this planet with more than sufficient great people within its ranks to make a huge success of whatever path it chooses to take. 75 years ago millions of our young people died fighting the Germans to stop them controlling Europe - for what? So they can do the thing all the those died trying to stop!!
One thing is certain - there will be more exits from the EU in the coming years. Its corrupt - when were the accounts last signed off - not fit for purpose and managed by unelected bureaucrats for the self interest of a few.

"The people"??? Why, have you spoke to all of them or is that just some generalisation based on what you've read and seen in the media.

I didn't "back" any side, Juan. It's not a game, as your grandchildren will discover. Bye now.

Well said. Whilst I admit I edged to remain in the end I was 50/50 for a long time so I have no problem with the result. The dummy spitting coming out from remainers though in the last few hours on social media is cringeworthy though and they want to convince themselves that everyone who did vote leave must be some sort of Jeremy Kyle wannabe unemployed racist.

Stop panicking Cp Jones. This was to be expected after the tales of doom pushed out for 3 months from you Remainers. To talk down our country was disgraceful.
Anyway cheer up the pound against the Euro is 1.25 this mornning marginally better than on Monday. The reason is that the Euro has fallen as much as the pound because as some of us have been saying our leaving the EU as the 2nd biggest net contributor and the EU biggest market will hit them hard and even harder if they play silly beggars with tarriffs.
