I would go further and suggest that most opinions are a matter of opinion.

| Chuffed for Sinfield, i think he is an excellent palyer and even better leader. He is one of the reasons why you lot have dominated rugby for the last six years. I have always rated English players with how they do against the Aussies. Some great players in Super league have done naff all against them. Sinfield has always caught my eye when even getting put in stupid posistions like hooker. Aussies are like cryptanite with Tomkins, never done a thing. Couldn't tie Sinfield or Halls boots at international level.

| Sir Kev is actually receiving the recognition he deserves this close season for all those amazing achievements throughout his career.
He is going down in history already, and he aint no where near finished.
Congratulations Sir Kev, well deserved. Our greatest Captain ever.

| Obviously Sam shouldn't of even been shortlisted!! If Sinfield is winning it only Anthony Gelling should of been nominated from Wigan

The Wigan fans are just annoyed as they were half-way through making the flag to celebrate.

| Quote: thaiad24 "i can see why the players voted for Sam, he is so illusive and shows sparks of brilliance and im sure many of the players voted for him by remembering a blistering run he made around them in a game and they thought at the time 'blimey that was bl00dy good'
you don't get that with Sinfield, he isn't flash, he isn't spectacular but he is excellent at leading/kicking/thinking and the most important player in the most successful SL team ever
cant people on here be happy that an English guy won the award? instead of discrediting him at every chance? We ALL should be proud that a SL player is recognized in this way'"
Personally I completely agree with all of that, and am chuffed to bits for the fella - any recognition he gets is well and truly earned. I can see how some people would question this though, particularly those who aren't Leeds fans, who of course don't appreciate the impact he has as much as us Leeds fans.
There are much better individual players out there, hence him not getting in the world 13, but what he has done for the Leeds club over the last decade or so cannot be over stated. People are bound to argue though that this doesn't make him the individual best player of the past 12 months, and I'd tend to agree.
There are dozens of better individual players out there - but I'd doubt any of them would have had the impact Sinfield has had a Leeds. For me, he is fundamental to the culture of the club, and that's what has won us our titles, not superb individual players.

A nice confidence boost ahead of the world cup, not just for Sinfield but also for the rest of the England team.'"
Should help with the Aussie coaches motivational speech as well.
IMO these awards should be taken with a pinch of salt, recognition of a very good player but opinion of the best player is always a matter of opinion.
In football i find it amazing that English players are regularly offered up for the european player of the year, or that england are constantly in the top 8 of the world rankings.'"
Why? If they don't like it they should've played more test matches. Given what he's achieved this season this award is deserved. I fail to see ho an award can be given to an Aussie or Kiwi when they've played 1 test match this year.
I've also seen the argument on here that he shouldn't get the award because of the level of opposition England has played has been poor, but by the same logic all the Austrailian's that have won the award over the last 20 odd years shouldn't have won it because Austrailia have been so dominant against the rest of the world.
And English players get nominated in football because English teams consitantly do well in the CL, and the PL is one of the world's top competitions, and to be fair an English player rarely wins it.

They played 2 test matches actually.. And surely 2 wins over NZ over shadows a win and loss v Exiles, 1 win over Wales and 2 vs France.

| you could argue a case for all the nominees as they all have the extra spark thats needed to be world class
kevs standards are so high in the big pressure games that perfection or as near as is almost expected
a 100% kicking ability during the play offs was exceptional as were man of the match awards on that run in
i've not seen the aussie reaction yet but no doubt its the same as the ones from wigan, tomkins is a superb player and may well yet become another british winner of the award but he doesn't affect his team as much as sinfields does and thats why most teams would prefer a sinfield in their team driving them forward rather than the flashes of brilliance that tomkins can show

Tomkins was nowhere near good enough for the award as Sinfield shouldnt of been either!! Cameron Smith led his club to the NRL title, his state to an Origin victory and captained Australia to 2 victories over the Kiwis. Sinfield didn't bother showing up for 90% of the season.

| Leeds edge out Wigan to deny them again.....ouch.
Congrats Sir Kev.
Very fittting a 'golden boot', think about the way he literally kicked us to success throughout the play-off series. Very much a 'golden boot'. He also made the plays, took the knocks etc. A true leader of men.

| Thoroughly deserved, what he did this year in the playoffs is the stuff of legend.
He is also a great example of what can be achieved without the obvious and more flashy attributes.
Of the english players i would want at wire he would top the list and has for a while.
IMO this brings further into question the timing of the MOS announcement. Sinfield would surely have been shortlisted if it was after the GF.

Are you really comparing the Exiles to the current world champions in terms of quality opposition??
