If McClennan continues on to a 5th season that would make him the longest serving Leeds coach since...?
tvoc? I want to say Laughton but I have a feeling I might need to go even further back than that.

unless you use many pc's you may not be aware the quote function doesn't always work.
on some it will only quote the last comment in a set of quotes & doesn't always display what is a quote & what is not a quote.
this doesn't happen on other forums using similar layout |

Of course it is, but I am firmly of the opinion that in a salary capped world, the playing squads are going to be roughly equal.
The main differentiator is the coach, and how its worth getting the best you possibly can, and making them want to play for the club. |

There is still a considerable variation in squad strength throughout the league.
They will only become 'roughly equal' once more are able to spend the maximum they are allowed under the existing cap rules.
Coach McClennan finds himself in an enviable position this season when he can add the quality of Webb, Burrow, Peacock and Lauitiiti to the 17 that represented the club on Sunday at Odsal. |

The best players are always going to want to play for the most high profile and successful clubs, irrespective of whether everyone can spend the same amount or not.
The challenge for all those clubs dawdling around the middle to bottom part of SL is to make themselves an attractive proposition to elite players rather than just somewhere that takes the slops from the top teams. |
