Quote: brannyrhino "Is that the approved school Blenheim to the top of the picture
It would be icon_lol.gif

The raggy-d kids from Blenheim were moved to Lawnswood while I was in the fifth form when Blenheim closed - you can only imagine the culture shock icon_lol.gif

The school stayed closed fo at least three years after that because when I was at Kitson College of Technology faking interest in the subject we took one of our exams in the upstairs hall of the now deserted Blenheim school and whie we were in the middle of the exam a huge piece of plaster (like six foot square) fell off the ceiling and just missed the lecturers head.

The exam was abandoned and that was the only reason that I passed the first year of the ONC course - the following year in true eurovision stylee I scored one point in the actual ONC because I remembered to write my name at the top of the paper - its a record that still stands and I was drummed out of the college in disgrace and not a minute too soon.

Not sure if anyone else has linked to the above site but it seems to list almost every ex-pub that ever existed in Leeds.

Be warned, looking at that site may make you cry. It's tragic.

I remember the fountain thing opening in 2000 but I’ve got the feeling that the garage had been closed for a while before that but I could be wrong.

It was closed for many, many years, I used it when I got my first car in '75 but I don't think it was around for much longer than that.

We used to go in the Marquis of Granby for a stale pork pie before catching the bus home on college night school nights - I swear it was the same pork pie from under a plastic dome that I ate every week.

I've just spent a very enjoyable couple of hours this afternoon a-wandering the streets of Leeds photographing pubs & bars for a little painting project, including...

Bourbon (Cookridge St), Casa Mia, O'Neils, The Vic, Scarboro Taps, The bottom of Mill Hill, The Hogs Head on Lower Briggate, Three Legs & The Vine.

The latter two I took the precaution of keeping the width of The Headrow between me, the camera and the clientele lest they think I was gathering evidence...

There are dozens of great old pub buildings in Leeds city centre and dozens more that were obviously pubs in the past and are now something else - Storeys amusements opposite the markets for instance ???

This was the public bar of the Merrion Hotel.

If you were in there around 82/83, I may well have served you.
