A good proportion of Wigan fans agree with you, but personally I think it doesn't give enough Wane anything like enough credit.
Maguire was the one who took us to the next level, no doubt, and the basic principles of how Wigan defended under Wane can be traced back to what he learned as his assistant. Madge, however had the good fortune to take over a team full of quality at a good age. In Wane's tenure, Wigan were losing stars to the NRL and Union at a rate of a couple at least per season (something Leeds were adept at avoiding during the same period) and Wane had to find a way to keep winning whilst increasingly having less and less to work with. If you look at the side who won the 2011 Challenge cup, and compare them with the pedigree of the teams that won either the 2016 or 2018 Grand Finals, it's like night and day. Very few stars in their pomp, instead a group of home-grown players and 'project players' plucked from obscurity, who succeeded in the main through the winning culture that Wane was so brilliant at developing & maintaining.
Eventually this caught up with the style of play, which was to be fair was heavily structured, if effective (Wane's first season had some brilliant attacking rugby, think he learned quickly about how to rein it in slightly from the two semi-final defeats to Leeds).
I understand that he's not the most popular man in Rugby League, but given available options I think Wane could be an absolute master-stroke.

| I think it’s a terrible decision. The issue is not the coach. It’s the players. To sack 2 coaches in the space of a year is embarrassing for a club like Leeds and points to other issues.
Whilst people may not think McDermott or Furner were the best coaches in the game, they clearly were not the main cause of our poor performances.

| As a Saints fan I’ve not watched as many Leeds games as everyone on here but I think it’s the right decision. In every Leeds game I’ve watched this season, your attack does look better but the defence has been that bad that I think it warrants the sacking of Furner alone. When a new coach comes in you expect to see some overall improvement and there hasn’t been any which is worrying, especially when you consider that 2 marquee players have been signed.
To add to that Furners record at Canberra was very questionable and there wasn’t really anything to suggest he was going to be a success. If you want a quicker fix but with hard to watch rugby then Wane’s your man, if you’ve got the patience to wait for success and entertaining rugby then someone like Powell would be ideal. Think this makes it clear that there isn’t much patience left so I would say Wane is the right man for the job. Whilst it’s nice not having to compete against Leeds for trophies, SL needs more than 2 good teams so I hope you sort out your problems quickly.

| I hate this.
Even if my team are struggling at the moment... to give any coach the sack after such a short time is criminal, in my eyes.
Either the world is going slightly mad, and we are all constantly close to financial problems, or....and more likely in my opinion.... Furner's attitude has upset someone like Sinny.
I really hope that isn't the case, but I can imagine Furner telling the squad that they can't live on past glories, and that they need to work harder than ever to succeed.....

Unless we know what’s gone on we can only speculate.
What we do know is that there’s been no improvement on the pitch and that is what coaches get judged on, rightly or wrongly.

And what will be interesting is we will find out what these players are made of in the second half of the season, they’ve got nowhere to hide now.

| I think it's utter madness. There wasn't a long term plan to get players in and beeded in before the likes of Peacock, Sinfield, Maggsy, Burrow et al retired. They have relied upon youngsters from the academy who lets be honest aren't upto it. A clear Gawwy tactic of doing it on the cheap. Him and Caddick will use the excuse of the ground refurb, but again it was falling down and a shambles. This another sign of them not wanting to spend money. Well, it's coming to fruition now.
The last couple of seasons you could see the discipline had gone in the club. All you saw on Social media was players going out drinking and 'oooo new shirt day, go check em out' etc. I don't expect the players to live like total monks or not have a social life. But when they're not delivering they need to be seen as putting effort in. There's something rotten in the club.
We know there is no leader on the pitch. I don't think Watkins was the correct choice as Captain and I know he had horrid luck with regards to his injury and now confidence is shot in the team.
Furner, yes the buck stops with him, but he's been made a total scapegoat.

| The picture on social media of Rob Oates and JP on the a few weeks ago said much about the current malaise.
The whole club had gone from being very professional to completely unprofessional. This mess was always going to take a few years to clean up and getting trigger happy with the coach after 15 games won’t help that.

Agree with every word. As much as it pains me to say it, Wane would fit us like a glove right now.
He demands and gets aggression and toughness from his teams, somthing we'r crying out for.
He's the best in the british game at slowing the opponents Play the ball and attack down. Somthing thats killing us.
We'v got talent all over the Academy, he's brilliant at bringing youth through.
He's not my first choice but he certainly brings a lot of what we need and i wouldnt be dissapointed with him. If its any of Powell, Demitriu, Flanagan, Griffin or Wane, id be pretty happy.

Watkins rightly accepts the players are to blame. Maybe now they might start to play?

| I find it so strange that you would back a coach like Furner to the hilt with signings like Hurrell and Lolohea, who he’s been involved with previously, to then get shut so soon in to his reign. To now have to get a new coach in and potentially not have much room to make many squad changes to suit what he wants because money is tied up in Furners choices seems crazy.
Why they would give that backing to Furner, whilst Brian Mac seemed to have to make do at points is beyond me. Had McDermott been given money to sign two marquee players plus 2 or 3 others, then he may have had a better chance of rebuilding the side after the departures of all those stalwarts.

Wane would do a great job for Leeds. You do not win 3 grand finals, a challenge cup and a WCC solely on the back of another coaches foundations. I think it’s forgotten sometimes that he played a big part in laying those foundations anyway as Maguire assistant and from the work he’d done with the junior teams for years previously. He also didn’t have the luxury Maguire had in 2011 of being given three internationals from the Melbourne Storm to work with and instead he had to deal with departures of key personnel year in year out and he somehow managed to make sure we remained in the trophy hunt.
I think we’re seeing at Wigan now just how much his absence is being felt. I would hate for him to become the coach of Leeds because I’m convinced he’d win things for them. He would be a god send for all those young players Leeds had involved in the England academy series win for starters.
