McDermott was a good player but I think it's fair to say he's fortunate to be in the Hall of Fame at this stage given who isn't in there yet - Jim Brough, Mick Shoebottom, Alan Smith, Dicky Williams etc.

Well inducting four players a year means we're going to end up with 100+ relatively quickly and by that stage we'll see compilers like Francis Cummins etc in there. On this strange "no order of preference" basis you could stick Franny in tomorrow and it would make sense as they could say he will end up in there anyway. |

Disappointed it's not the "Has he got the legs on Daio Powell" version of the commentary.
But yes, obviously Cummins isn't really a candidate for the Hall of Fame but my point is, there are some people who are clear-cut and some who will end up being marginal. Barrie Mac falls into the latter criteria, Shoebottom, Brough etc aren't. |
