Saints are a different proposition now they have dumped that useless lump of lard at 7, put Barba at FB & Lomax & that young kid in the halves.

That's the key issue for Saints chances for me. Does he know his best combination yet? It's been four different HB pairings in the last 4 games. Smith with both Lomax and Fages, then Fages & Richardson vs Wakey and then Lomax & Richardson.
Smith seems to be out of the picture now but might he get back in if the halves produce an iffy showing vs Salford? Will he go Fages & Richardson with Lomax at centre like the Wakey game or Lomax in the halves with Richardson....or with Fages???

| Really not sure who I want in this, Hull and Wigan have not beat us at Headingly in ages, but both know how to turn up in big games.
Saints have a bad record against us in the playoffs but ran us close at home very recently and we struggle to stop their pack.
Wakey would be rank underdogs if they somehow got into the playoffs but they are the only one of these four to beat us since the super 8s started.

| ToLomax out with a hamstring tonight so revert back to Fages & Richardson halves and Smith on the bench. Not being able to get any consistency in selection with their halves could undue them in the playoffs.

| Wouldn't mind if we do face them, were making tough work of tonight before the red card and may have even slipped up had it stayed 13 vs13

| Hull, Wigan or saints it was going to be tough whoever it was.
Tonight's result is great for hull, puts them back into form without being too tough.
Have bad habits crept in at cas, or preparing to peak at the right time?

| Quote Biff Tannen="Biff Tannen"Although very amusing and excellent fun for us all of us on this board, i really don't think it would be good for the game if we got a 'same old' final between two sides a mere shadow of themselves a decade ago.
I really want us to win the GF of course, but i hope Cas make the final from the other semi and if we win it beating them it will feel a little more worthy even if we have been a distance behind them all year. Beating an 'iffy' Saints or Wigan for that matter for the crown when finishing a mile behind the league leaders and not beating them in two years would make the victory a hollow one from my perspective when the dust had settled.'"
I don't really see the vast Benifit it would have for the game for a different team to win it. Personally would be quite happy for Cas to be knocked out, doesn't really effect us you play who you play but if I was a Wigan fan I wouldn't be happy. I don't agree with being allowed to rest that many when the result can effect who qualifies. Personally this time of year id take momentum and form over resting player. Hope it bites them in the .

| If Wigan have now missed out (beating Wakefield by at least +91 notwithstanding) they only have themselves to blame over 30 rounds - not least last week at home to another weakened Castleford side.
The league table doesn't lie.

| So picking a squad for this one is going to be a very tough one. The battle between Golding and Walker is massive, Golding was superb tonight. Delaney missing the game. Will Ferres be fit?
Golding / Walker
Briscoe Watkins Sutcliffe Hall
Moon McGuire
Garbutt Parcell Cuthbertson
Ablett Ward
JJB
Burrow Mullally Singleton Keinhorst / Ferres

How many Wigan fans were complaining when they benefited from Leeds resting players the week before the cup semi? This was the last game of the season, but worth 2 points, exactly the same as every other round.
Although we have a better chance of beating Saints, I'm hoping for a Leeds v Cas final.
