| I don't get this macho 'man-up'/'no-pain-no gain' attitude.
In any other industry both employers and employees have a shared responsible to ensure their own safety when working with hazardous materials.
Surely, if the I-pitch carries extra risk (and there's no evidence yet that it doesn't) then players are entitled to protect themselves against that (perceived) risk.

| After seeing the state of Matty Ashursts knee's I'd certainly wear full body skins. I'm not somebody that goes out in just a T-Shirt in winter just so I can look like Johnny concrete. The same applies here, to keep the skin on the knee's and be able to sleep, walk and train properly the following week I'd give up the hard man image for one game.

| Tights - no. Instead they should strap squares of turf to their knees and elbows.

| From what I have read regarding the potential grumbles from Salford etc I wouldn't be as worried about scrapes on knees. There seems to be a risk regarding ligiments. Knees and ankles, don't think skins will help much

Agree.
The evidence appears to be mounting that this pitch is a risk: where and when has it been tried before successfully ? (Or is it the RL lads being used as guinea pigs ?)

Makes sense to cover up in bad weather. Ashursts knees were injured on a frozen grass pitch not the iPitch.

Are you advocating skins for all snowy games?

| Ashurst also somehow managed to play the following week so perhaps the harrowing tales of potential amputation proved to be reasonably unfounded.

| I once nearly lost a leg* playing tag rugby on a lovely grass pitch in the height of summer.
Whilst diving for a glorious try I took the skin off my shin (or maybe I stumbled over my gut and fell over). The very large graze got badly infected by what might have been dog muck on the grass and I spent a few weeks of it being closely monitored as an out patient at the hospital every third day.
*I probably came nowhere near losing a leg but in all honestly the hospital took it very seriously and were very concerned.
I'm not sure where this takes the discussion but i am glad, nonetheless, that I shared.
Can you dig a hole in an i-pitch with your heel for conversions? Surely that is the test as to whether it should be allowed.

Can you do the same on a frozen grass pitch in the Winter, or a bone dry grass pitch in the Summer ?
Same thing really............

| It's a shame the PFU Chairman isn't around to give us the 'official' Union view on plastic playing surfaces ....
