Yep like I say I don't mind if the club do need the sponsorship money from the renaming of the Stand but I think any "honour" to John Holmes should be seperate from any corporate sponsorship.

I thought it wasn't bad for me. If you want to look through rose tinted glasses at the running of a corporate body then fair enough. If you are prepared to let your dominant position in RL wane it's no skin off my nose. I have stated what I would like the stand called, but there's no way can or will the board be able to ignore the commercial realities of naming a stand.

As has been said using the words South Stand has marketing potential even if it gets prefixed with a corporate sponsor.

I don’t think the club could honour the memory of John Holmes more than with a statue, respectful and long-lasting. I can just hear a young lad turning to his old man and saying “who’s that dad?” – his memory would be immortalised.

It still shocks me that he has gone.



A statue would be a fitting tribute.

his family will probably choose from photographs what the statue would look like and there have been some excellent pictures of John over the years
