| Just watching the 2009 GF and loving the inconsistency in the commentary - Saints try it looks pretty clear that Eastmond knocks on into Donald before scoring "I think you've got to give benefit of the doubt to the attack." Fast forward to our last try and it's very tight as to whether Lee Smith is onside "You can't give benefit of the doubt on such an important decision."
11 years later, I know the result, I know the commentary doesn't matter but it still winds me up. God I miss sport.

| Quote Him="Him"It is bad isn’t it! The current lot are bad because there’s too many of them chipping in like they’re blokes in a pub.
Stevo was just talking nonsense and making everything out to be a massive deal.'"
You could literally take any one of Stevo's match commentaries and paste it onto the soundtrack of any game and you would not be able to tell. The mark of a true master of his art.

The NRL has had some fantastic commentators over the years and when you watched their live TV games,
Ray Rabbits Warren was the best commentator ever IMO,He really got you interested and brought the game to life.
His State of Origin and Grand final offerings were amazing
Vossy is still doing a great job commentating currently in the NRL and is so much better than anyone we have had commentating over here

| In all honesty I'm not really that bothered about the commentating, I just like watching the games and don't notice what's being said too much as I'm doing my own analysis......

| Whoever mentioned upthread about Stevo blowing up any slight error or miss by the ref wasn't kidding. Plays later he still rattles on.

| Full games? PAH!
Nothing compared to Yesterday's classic Emmerdale episodes featuring Martin Offiah and Gary Connolly in exciting amateur action

| watched the 1989 NY day game against Oldham
First game for Hugh Wadell against his old club and they had a contract out on his head, first one to take it off gets a bonus.
The quality of the recording is awful and the game/reffing isn't much better. Those wishing for the good old days take a good, long, hard look at the differences between the games of then and now. Those that think the skill levels are diminished are deluding themselves. Different yes but inferior, definately not

That was Ford's debut IIRC. Also the only good game Backo had for us? Maybe the Yorks Cup Semi as well.
The thing I enjoy most about watching these old games is the lack of drum and trumpet in the South Stand. Made for a much better atmosphere.
