| Quote: Lord of the Idiots "No, you're not. I rate O'Loughlin massively, because he's one of those players you see on the opposition's teamsheet and think 'Oh crap', and no matter how good people say Tomkins is, O'Loughlin always brings so much more to the table for Wigan.
What player are you describing, sounds like the retired Paul Sculthorpe
I think he's the best 13 in the league because he's the best overall player in the league-he combines brute strength, excellent defence and destructive running style with guile, the hands of a halfback and pace.
If he misses the World Cup, England will suffer. Massively.'"

| It's says a lot for the standard of loose forwards in the country if he is considered the best, or the fact that loose is a dying trade and just another workhorse or prop in that position. There has not been a good 13 on the world stage I merge in the last 10-12 years.
Higham and kirmond both should have been short listed before him.

982.jpg [quote:1pqtnbtj]Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.[/quote:1pqtnbtj]

| In his early days I thought he was average. He's got better with age but also also been very injury prone. Shows the degree that he is over rated that he makes the man of steel shortlist after so few games.
Doesn't have as many facets to his game as Sinfield but what he does, he does very well. His aggressive style is probably more suited to international rugby.
Needs a prolonged spell without any injuries to be considered "great".

| I see the "not a 13" or "not a 6" brigade out in force again.
O' Loughlin is a running, tackling back-rower - a job he does really well.
He's not going to cut you open with a devastating pass or kick, but that's not his game to do so.
He's a grafter, and every team needs one. Not entirely convinced that makes him MoS material mind.

It always surprises me the number of people in RL who judge a player by a certain set of skills decided by the number on his back rather than what they contribute to the team.

| It is to be hoped that Sinfield's career is to be judged as a portfolio of contributive skill sets rather than just a number of numbers.

| I think he is a pretty good player capable of turning a game on his day. But I totally agree with those that suggest it makes a mockery of the MOS to have some one on the short list who has missed knocking on for half the season. The fact that he has made the 3 makes me wonder if it is his "turn".

Squad numbers are confusing for the elderly.

| Good tackler (usually around the head)
The best in the league at laying on or flopping on top of the third man in the tackle.
A reasonable pivot between forwards and backs
A vital player for Wigan though and has improved with age

| By classic "13" are some posters thinking of some sort of Steve Norton type ball handler extraordinaire? Is the classic "6" like an injury proof Tony Myler?
For me the best 13s I've seen are Hanley and Pearce, neither great ball handlers, and the best 6s I've seen are Lewis and Lockyer.

| Whe I first noticed him he was getting penalised heavily for high tackles, but since Wigan started to improve around 2010 he looks a player that Wigan need.Good player, but if he comes above Peacock in MOS I don't think a Leeds player will ever get the award and I will ignore it in future

Lol, he's done that plenty of times for Wigan.

| I think he's a good aggressive defender with no great pace that any other backrower doesn't have. There's a few in Oz that are streets ahead of him like Gallen, Lewis, Bird and Stewart. Probably the best 13 in our comp but I won't gush about him because the competition isn't that stiff.
