| Leeds Met undergraduate fees have already been set at £2000 for 2009/10, most other Unis are charging around £3,000. In 2010 all Unis will have the opportunity to raise their fees to £5,000. All Unis will be increasing their fees in 2010 not just Leeds Met.

| Quote lurchio="lurchio"I think this applys to a lot of degrees, not particularly at any University. The rise in fee's will effect the 'well off' students more anyway won't it, as aren't fee's still based on you parents earnings to some extent?!
also, £10million a year? wasnt the challenge cup deal worth about £10m over the 6 years? if i was a student id be a little p****d of at that kind of money being spent. saying that, all uni's are a con anyway'"
The money Leeds Met spend on sponsorhip comes from the Carnegie Trust, and has to be used on sports, etc, so is irrelevant when discussing tuition fees

| If students didn't, and I mean this quite literally, p[ii[/iss most of the money they borrow down the urinals at Headingley's various drinking establishments, I'd have more sympathy with any complaints about how much money they have to borrow to get them through their course.

he struggles to grasp anything, especially anything of the opposite sex, he once tried to "grasp" a lap dancer, and was ejected from the establishment, he found the whole ordeal arousing, which only raised his liking for men!

If there is a trust fund the money should be spent more wisely than frittering it away on pro sport, grass roots sport is vastly underfunded money spent there would be of greater benefit.Mind you I bet the trustees get some right perks.

Like most advertising its about tying your name to an image you want your product to be associated with. for Carnegie its.
They want to be associated with top level sport, and want to be known in sporting circles. Thats why they invested heavily in Local Rl and Cricket, which gets you a lot more coverage for you money than pumping money into a local football team.
If they wanted to be linked with excelling in sport at the top level, why did they re-brand they Tykes though

the vast majority of loans go directly into paying for rent.

| I am not liking the way people are slagging off the students of leeds met how they waste there money in drink. I am a current student and i dont my money down the toilets. I also do not think poor people go there, i would not call my self poor but to be honest the 2000 pound tuition fees did encourage me to go as i saved 3000 in three years which for is is quite a lot. I feel if they put them up less people will want to go but because of the fees going up they would prob end up about equal.
And for the students who do there money away be grateful of the income for the area.

| I think that most students just decide to write off the years at uni, and start life 20k in debt. HArdship loan extensions are not that hard to come by.
But it takes a long time to clear. I only had 9.5k as I was sensible, and its taken me 5 years to clear it, and I have well above the average graduate wage since leaving. An beacuse of the way its paid off the group of people earning less the 20k will never pay it off. IMO the loans thing has not really worked.
