| Quote: Harrigan "I never understand the negativity towards Clarkson on here. He runs the ball in and doesn't check, he is a brilliant line runner and his defensive work is one of the best on the team. He may not knock guys back when he runs the ball up but to compare him to Kirke is crazy to me.'"
Is it? Since making his debut and going full time he's not improved at all. The 'he runs great lines' and 'tackles like a demon' lines have been spouted about him for a long time but are they really true? He will make a break once every 5 or 6 games or come up with a good tackle (like the one that dislodged the ball late in the game last night) but apart from that he rarely wins a collusion either side of the ball, and his work rate in attack is as bad as Kirke's.
He's bulked up in the off season but lacks the enthusiasm, and agression of say JJB, or the pace and power of Liam Farrell to make up for it his lack of size. He's young enough to prove his doubters wrong but he looks like another Simon Worrall to me.

| Quote: Harrigan "Get real!!
The shoulder charge won't get suspended. He hardly touched him!
I say it every ******* time! Is it that hard for supporters to realise that a shoulder charge ISN'T an automatic sin bin or sending off offence?! He didn't make contact with the head so it's just a penalty. He went into the body (only just as well) and tried to force him into touch.'"
Thought he barely touched Hardaker. When I saw the replay you could easily have said he was off balance and couldn't lift an arm in time as Hardaker span out of the way. I would have probably not even penalised it but hey ho.
As for Moon, the real danger is how you put the player on the ground. I saw no malice in any tackle where legs were lifted last night and tackled players were put on the ground safely. It's not dangerous to lift a players legs, as long as you put him on the ground right. I don't mind penalties for it as it focusses attention of the players to do things right. Bans are usually not dished out willy nilly but you really never know.

With regards to the pack IF the rumours about Baldwinson are true then i'll again state the money wasted re-signing kirke should have gone on retaining Baldwinson and Singleton imo.
Clarkson just looks lost at times to me he's not a battering ram forward as such and seems to be utilised that way.
Defensively our communication is off and in some ways given the absentees/youngsters and the regular way players change their places in the defensive line isn't helping.
What i do hope happens is that the youngsters continue to get gametime ,Burrow stays at 7 and GH tears Kirkes contract up in favour of better deals for some of the younger lads.'"
Our coach is not the right man to lead a generational transition at the club.

| To be fair, the offer I've been told Baldwinson has got from the NRL is true I doubt not retaining Kirke or Kylie would make much of a difference to him signing a new Leeds deal or not.

| It was good to see the youngsters show some good stuff on attack but the rookie defensive errors, which we have to expect, would have lost us points to the better sides. However the foundations for this win came from JP, JJB, Hardaker, Moon, McShane (not for the full 80 minutes though) and Burrow who scored 2 excellent tries and made 2 others with Sinfield like kicks plus took responsibility with some very good out of hand kicks.

An offer that probably wouldn't have been relevant though had we had more faith in him in the first place.

| Was good to get the win last night and important that we did, but we are forever having problems on the outside defence due to the strange defensive set up. If the line came up as one and tracked better, there'd be fewer holes to be exposed.
Prime example of this was when brown went through a massive gap inside Sutcliffe because he shot up 4/5 yards ahead of his inside player. However it is a work in progress especially as we had Sutcliffe, Keinhorst and BJB playing one side for the first time together.
Having said that it also happened through the middle with players shooting up much quicker than the next man and we gave away 2/3 tries with this type of dog legged line.
Think the defensive line/structure does need to be looked at but I think this will also generally improve as the weeks pass with these new combinations together.

the VR judged it to be a shoulder barg so it should of been 10 mins minimum.'"
You sound like the muppet sat behind me ranting on all game. When the shoulder charge incident happened he was on his feat trying to give the impression that he knows all the new rules & it has to be a sending off. Then when it's not, it's down to the anti-Leeds bias of officials. I'm not sure what is more annoying, the inane ramblings of Stevo or his acolytes in the crowd. Mine hosts don't pay good money so I have to sit in luxury next to morons.

This.
The likes of Baldwinson ,Foster ,Minchella ,Sutcliffe and Minns etc etc have ALL shown stacks of potential and form beyond their rookie years ALL season even when the Club took them on the pre-season camp EVERY COACH agreed they had big futures.
Now of course you can't keep them all nor am i saying we should have thrown 5/6 in for debuts at once but BEFORE looking at the likes of Kirke and extending Kylies deal surely what was about to break through should have been considered 1st imo.
the sixe os the deal now that's rumoured to have beeen accepted would have been irrellevant if we'd signed these lads up 3months ago.

If he plays like that every week it would be hard to leave him out of the team.'"
I have to disagree with this, if I am the only person who thinks this then so be it.
I have been one of the few that have harped on about giving the young ones a chance and I am glad this has finally happened. However, I must admit I haven’t been to see Sutcliffe in many U19 games this season, but I have heard on twitter and forums like this how he is the next big thing and how terrific he is as a player. Errr HHmmmm.
I have seen him play in the last 3 or so games and he may be a good second rower eventually, but as a Stand Off – No. Last night he threw the ball left, then he threw the ball right. There was no kicking game at all and no ‘show and go’ or dancing in front of the defensive line. He didn’t ask any questions of the opposition at all.
Yes he scored a reasonable try from 5 yards but that doesn’t make him a star. I expected to see much more from a kid who is so highly rated by others. Was he told not to kick or try anything that might make him look good? For me we had an extra 2nd rower but lost a half back with him playing.
I am sure he is a nice lad and I don’t want to sound as though this is a Vickery type thread – but come on. I know many a player who Leeds have let go who are playing in the Championship who offered much more than I have seen here. Even Ollie Olds who went to Aus offered so much more. Even that kid is it Ben Johnston at Cas (D/R) with York is way above and beyond what I have seen so far.
For a big six footer like he is mould him into a JJB or a 13, but deffo not a 6,7 or 9.
IMO of course.

| I think wherever you go you get that though TT. I'd say the majority of every fan base don't actually have a clue.
I had one girl next to me yesterday complaining that Peacock "doesn't do much anymore". I found myself shaking my head and laughing.
Every week I have to put up with idiots in the Southstand. Even when on the odd occasion I turn round and explain the rule to them they still disagree because they're too stupid to know better.

Like the ones showed many times by much senior pro's over the last 6 games or the ones showed by Kirke and Clarkson last night???
Like i said in an earlier post our communication and constant swopping of positions within the defensive line are as big a problem than rookie errors.

I think you have answered your own question in your last big paragraph.
I don't think he was fantastic last night, but I do think he looked very good and promising. I don't see him as a long term stand off, but more as at the back of the srcum.
However, your point on last night, I honestly think the team and him were told instructions before hand and stuck to it. I couldn't understand why he wasn't kicking the field penalties or the drop out. But it must have been instructed that way. I moaned about Burrow always looking the other way from his half back partner and seemed reluctant to pass to him. On reflection after, I realised that it must have been an instruction.
Therefore it is wrong to blame the player for not been allowed the platform to display his talents. Plus his try was a lot better than a "reasonable try from 5 yeards".

Why? We still wouldn't have been able to come anywhere near the contract a couple of NRL clubs have offered him.
