To let Parcell go is also a strange decision and together with Golding only makes sense if we have a top line hooker lined up. I guess we plan to use Lolohea as cover at full back (as Walker gets injured frequently) which will allow McLelland some game time at half back. He can also cover for hooker but a couple of injuries to key positions and we are back in the same mess again.
Sutcliffe can cover several positions but Golding is a better fullback and also provides cover at hooker - two key positions, so I would keep Golding and let Sutcliffe go.
As for Garbutt he obviously has a weight and fitness problem and maybe there is a better prop lined up too.
The good news is that Peteru had the best average metres per carry of our props albeit in far fewer appearances with Crosby second both ahead of Garbutt.'"

This rumour isn’t new, but I think Merrin could go well here as long as he’s happy playing prop. If Merrin is a serious option now, I assume the Taupau rumour is dead. |

Merrins a better version of Cuthbertson, all the fancy stuff with the defence and hard yards to back it up. Think if we signed him we would have to play him at 13, he can do a good job at prop but 13's by far his best position, if we'r spending a fortune on what would be a star signing, you'v got to play them in there best position imo. He would rule out Tapou if he came so if Garbutt is leaving and freeing up another Quota spot, id look at someone like Albert Vete who would do a similar job as mitch. Merrin at 13 Vete at prop
