Samoa Eliminate Tonga In a World Cup Classic
As soon as the draw for the World Cup was made the standout game of the quarter finals looked as though it might be the meeting of Tonga and Samoa, should Tonga win their group and Samoa complete theirs as runners up to England. And so it came to pass, the most eagerly anticipated game of the tournament so far.
The prize on offer was a semi-final encounter against England next Saturday afternoon as the two sides met for the nineteenth time with Tonga the slight favourites to pick up the win as world ranked number two against a Samoa side ranked as seventh.
Samoa had only been given a four point start on the coupon and everything pointed to a close encounter between the two, Polynesian rugby league mad countries.

Really !
Overhyped , far too many errors , even though Samoa have improved since they have sobered up from the first England game it will still be a 20 point plus win next week for the home side
The game was ok as two ordinary sides made it an even contest

Ferns Win As Cooks Score First Points Against Them
The second placed Kiwi Ferns took on bottom team Cook Islands in the first match of a Group B double header in the women’s World Cup at York’s LNER Community Stadium.
The Kukis lost 74-0 to Australia last time out, which made New Zealand the clear favourites in this encounter that saw Cooks players Karaitiana and Terehia Matua both named to line up against their aunt Krystal Rota, who captained the Ferns.
The Kukis took to the field knowing they had never beaten the Ferns, the four-time World Cup champions.

Really enjoyed it. Frankly it’s been years since I last watched a TV game without spending half of it on the iPad. This one really held my attention. Brutal and compelling, but I fancy England to beat Samoa and make the final.

| Either way I hope Samoa give us a real battle with less errors than today as if we're going to do anything in the final we need a contest going into it.

The biggest concern I have with England winning it is that we’ve not had any significant challenge and haven’t been behind and under pressure.
That said, we’ve been good and in Welsby we have this generations Shaun Edwards. Let’s hope he doesn’t get sent off against Australia…

| Was a great game. Of course there’ll be errors in wet conditions, but though ball handling was excellent.
I have a lot of respect for Tui, he’s even bigger than when he was at Leeds, but very mobile despite that….
Think Samoan halves just had that bit of extra class though, and that was the difference.

Record Breaking Masterclass from the Jillaroos
Australia scored a massive win over the Cook Islands in their opening round while their opponents tonight France were comprehensively beaten by New Zealand. A win for Australia in tonight’s game at the LNER Stadium in York would guarantee their progress into the semi-finals and set up a mouth-watering game against the Kiwi´s on Wednesday to see who would top the group.
Australia are ranked World number one in the women´s game while the French are fifth, the bookies giving France a sixty-eight point start on the handicap coupon as they predicted a massacre, despite the Aussies giving three debuts.
The paying public, and those watching on TV, were hoping that the French would be able to give the Jillaroos a game, but expectations were low.

| Lolohea was poor. Several poor kick options including another nothing grubber with their last chance of the game.

Fair point - how much he will improve - time will tell - for sure it wont be for the want of effort

Everything I've seen of Lolohea screams off the cuff player, but against International standard defences he's just not good enough at it to be effective. I suppose that also explains why he's in SL and not NRL.

| I think he`s done ok at club level since he left Leeds.
But does not have the bottle in the big games (Challenge Cup and yesterday for example)

He's similar to Myler in many respects. A poor half back because he lacks the kicking game and leadership to control a game, but a decent fullback because of his passing game. Pick either of them outside of that position and your team will struggle.
