I'd guess something similar has happened. But whilst morale may not have been well managed, some of the players didn't help with showing zero since before McDermott left. Pro sport is the ultimate performance based job. If anyone wanted to prove they were worth keeping they've had every chance to show it on the field.

If Cuthbertson had started playing like he was in 2015 would he have been on the surplus list?

Every player in the 17 has been backed by Furner whether previously deemed surplus or not.
These are supposed to be pro athletes so spitting the dummy & not giving 100% is unacceptable.
Im also sick of the bog standard dross in the YEP week after week "we will fix it up" we will stick together blah blah spare us the soundbites & put the effort in on the pitch or feck off.

We're still at the point of the season where a couple of wins could change things very quickly. But if others pick up points and we keep losing we'll soon be at a point where major changes will be needed. At that stage the morale of a bunch of championship standard players will be the least of our worries.

I would say London are still favourites to go down, but with 3 wins already, including wins against Leeds and Wigan, that is far from certain. 7 or 8 wins could be enough to stay up.

It would be a disgrace if we were even fighting relegation. I mean, yes we are down there but have 4 soon to be 5 toughest away trips done in our first 8 games by end of the week. This squad is not a contender, perhaps worse than even most of us thought but still should be good enough for top 8 over the full season.

Should be I agree but the 3 performances give real reason for concern. The first 4 games was ridiculously tough but the performances in those was better than in the more winnable games since.

That says to me it's about attitude rather than ability. We have had good performances. The team may have underestimated the quality of the next three games and thought they'd be able to just turn up. Hopefully that attitude won't persist

I firmly believe there is ability in this team to compete in Super League against most teams the performance at Saints showed that. Mental toughness, attitude, team spirit and fight have let us down and it's not good enough.

I’m not as anti-Ferres as some but would let him go at the end of this year at his age. Been a really poor signing overall, partly due to injuries but also another case of us signing someone past their prime. We never really got to see much of his wide running, ball handling England form.
