| Besides the high wages, what incentive is there for anyone to actually want the job?
You can coach them however well you want, they still won't get near this current aussie squad when it truly matters.

| If we're all being honest is it a full-time job? Tony Smith has shown IMO that it isn't! It needs someone who can lift the team and who can be an inspiration as if the players are playing at that level they shouldn't need coaching IMO

| If the role has genuine clout in the development side then you want the absolute best. In fantasy world I'd go for Phil Gould - in part to see just how 'good' he is as a coach. Also in part because despite being a bit of a tool, the guy knows the game inside out.
On the non-fantasy side I'd probably look for an experienced NRL coach. I'm sorry but we're never going to catch Australia (we may never will but I at least want us to try) by picking SL coaches.

So, one of the muppets responsible for the worst England team since Dusty "Bin" Hare kicked England to the underside of mediocrity is bookies favourite to coach the England RL team? Fantastic.
I guess though if it was up to me he would be available for employment, because I would have sacked him 2 years ago from his current job.

| Not an aussie!! Its a joke to have an Australian coaching our team its an embarrasment imo! I cringed when i saw Tony Smith singing the national anthem.
Ellery Hanley for me or someone of the like who knows what its like to pull on that GB/Eng shirt

Notwithstanding the fact that Tony Smith is a UK citizen, I too would like to see an English appointment, but only if/when there's one who's up to the job. I can't think of many. When was Ellery Hanley's last coaching appointment?

Indeed. The only English SL coaches who you would say are qualified are Noble and Kear. Maybe Brian McDermott?
I wouldn't be too averse to Justin Morgan being coach. Although whether he'd want the job when he's trying to build something with KR I dont know.

The best coach in the world can't fix this. We need better infrastructure. The coach is just window dressing until we can consistently provide them with good enough players.
