he is back in aus got engaged last week he put it twitter about having to practise speaking aussie again as his friends would rip into him if he came out with any yorkshire words and that was as he was boarding a plane home

Thanks for that. From memory I've got it as the one T so nothing to change for me which is good to hear. All too often those with the single T appear to morph into double T's over time. Good point re surname but thankfully haven't noticed any confusion there.
