Holroyd was a good half, very good ball handling skills. You could Schoies influence on his game and with the booze as well.

He seemed to peak at 18 though.

Holroyd has never scored two tries in any match V Bradford (Northern or Bulls) while playing for Leeds.

So, basically, if Holly scored a try in a CC game V Bradford we won, if he didn't we lost. Wonder if Sean Long and Marting Gleeson knew about this at the time?

Some confusion perhaps with Francis Cummins, who IIRC scored at least one (and a good one it was) in a cup game at home to Bradford early in his career?

Arguably (although not much of one from me) Cummins' best try for Leeds. The shape of things to come ..... sadly not. He still managed to get on the end of lots of good play by others though.

I think Holroyd was a very talented player, and used to link really well with Schofield, particularly when they used to throw those two huge looping passes (1 each, obviously) and switch play from flank to flank very quickly.

I got the impression that it was off-field issues as much as anything that hampered his development, rather than not being good enough.

He did play in two Challenge Cup finals, so not an entirely undistinguished career. Even if we never looked remotely like winning either of them.

I thought Leeds were right back in it for the first one of those after Fallon and Schofield's two try in three minute burst near the start of the 2nd half. For the next 10 mins we were all over 'em until you know who scored Wembley's greatest ever try. After that we were gone.

Holroyd also played in the inaugural Grand Final in another game Leeds were marginally ousted by Wigan after a titanic battle.

sheffield at home? 1992? i recall he scored 2 tries.

i remeber this game as i won a shirt from the face in the crowd picture in the programme, cordle took some stick from the bradford speccies that day too.
