Top 4? Wasn't 7th the highest ranked team they played. Now THAT has got to be a first worth boasting about.

| Wigan can only beat what's in front of them.
I don't think you can say they beat Hull though. They beat themselves.

Wigan had an easy run to the final, no doubt about that, not a single top 6 club.
But their performance in the final was impressive and to me showed they are going to be difficult to topple in the playoffs.
'what, are you crazy?'
Let me explain. The way they played the conditions, right from the first few minutes they had good grubber kicks, forced repeat sets and really smothered hull as much as possible early on. In those heavy wet conditions it takes alot of juice out of you defending and coming off your own line, and the errors from hull resulted. Of course hull didn't help themselves, but wigan curtailed their natural more attacking game to play a specific way. It looked like a sh*t game but most other teams in the league would have lost because of how disciplined. and smothering wigan were. Matty smith deservedly won MoM because his kicking game....it was like sinfield grand final 101. Hull were constantly coming off their own line even when they did complete.
They set out specifically for a slow, slow grind and you got a sense at the end with the tomkins try and reaction the amount of effort it took to execute it almost perfectly.
If they add some polish to their attacking plays, which were understandably off in those conditions, they will win the grand final.

My previous post was to some extent tongue in cheek.
With how bad Hull were I can't see from that game why you'd make the conclusion that they 'WILL win the Grand Final'.
Only if everyone plays as bad as Hull did could that be certain.
Hull probably only had about a third of the ball....tackled way too much....played at the wrong end of the field and their confidence was shot. Apart from their FB and Whiting everyone else had stinkers. They were easy pickings.
Share the ball and field position and don't let Wigan build early momentum and Wigan are more than beatable.

I agree with most, apart from the last sentence. Smith controlled the game, wigan played the conditions and deserved to win a dull game.
I don't think that means they'll win the GF, but at least they are prepared to play a big final in the rain, unlike a certain other Lancashire team

| They've clearly got more to give and may do well so in the play offs. Having said that, I'd be delighted if we meet them and they play no better than Saturday. The other big unknown is how they'll respond after their cup win. In recent years cup winners have tended to perform worse once they've got that trophy in the bag.

| The way Holdsworths 'hand-to-eye-to-ball' co-ordination held up during the game, one could presume he was ed-during duty.

I believe Leeds have had quite a few Challenge Cup hangovers in the past few years.

I thank god I didn't put any money on him, after a Hull fan tipped him as MoM.
