| We’re desperate for at least one more prop, many of us were saying that we were two short before the season started. Sadly this has proved to be true. The fascination with “middles” must end, they’re just lower quality forwards and play as such.

| Myler would make a difference, but would be less important if we had centres who had the first clue about passing. Walker's definitely not the messiah, but his weaknesses in attack look worse because of the centres.
We can't play a tight, forward dominated style because we are short on size. We cannot play with width because our centres suck and the current fullback is no help most of the time. Then we have a flaky bench hooker who continually kills momentum through horrible passing from the floor. Some of those can be fixed by using the squad better, and some will be fixed when injured players return.
On paper even today we have OK halfbacks, backrowers coming out of our ears, OK wings and a couple of props who are good enough if we had more genuine props to rotate with. Bring in Myler, Fusitu'a and Newman and the backs look a lot better. The only area we're really weak at full strength is prop. If I were the new coach I'd want one and possibly two big boppers ASAP.
Sezer and Austin are playing poorly, but if we only fixed the props they would look much better.

| God I’m angry at the club and players right now. I’m absolutely fed up of it. It’s not good enough and this must be a watershed moment. Thought that was the loss to bulls in the cup the other year but obviously not. Hetherington needs to get his act together or leave.

Looked like a knock to his neck after a heavy tackle. Def injured as went off midway through just half and didn’t return. Don’t think Dwyer would have played that long otherwise….

There’s a couple of changes in there and no thompson.

None of the above would have made much if any difference.

| Just watched most of JJB's press conference. Crikey! He looked like he was literally swotting at flies some of the time. Maybe it's the lack of media training, although he is definitely not camera shy. Not of this would matter if he was a decent coach, and maybe he is. One thing that rankles though - it's as if he wasn't at the club when Agar was there. If you are going to apply the "blowtorch" at least admit your in culpability in the whole fiasco.

| Quote: Once were Loiners "While there are some glaring problems (today's prop and centres are bottom of the league stuff even on paper and we have frighteningly little depth in some areas) the team isn't quite as bad as it looks in terms of ability. Letting in 40 at home is as much about effort and teamwork as anything else. I've seen worse teams on paper do better if they put the effort in for 80 minutes. Its a cliche but true - get your defence sorted and make yourself hard to beat first, then the attacking play will follow.
The season this feels most like is 1983-84. Team fell to bits under Dewhurst and got no better under David Ward and Alan Smith as caretakers. We got in Maurice Bamford. Took him a little while to get going (I think we nearly lost to Blackpool in the John Player in his first game) before he turned us into a competitive unit. The team was unrecognizably better within weeks.
I don't think we'll see such a turnaround under any coach during the season, but the key was bringing in a real outsider as coach for the first time in a decade. Get it right and we'll be looking forward to next year. Get it wrong and we'll be back here next year with the same story. Over to you GH.....'"
A lot of good points. Makes me feel old. Queensland slaughtered us before Bamford came in, think 58-2 if memory serves.
I went to that game at Blackpool we were pretty poor. Losing with a few minutes to go when Dave Heron and John Holmes worked a runaround and we scored off a pass that was at least a yard forward, we then went 17 unbeaten and won the John Player. He got the spirit right. They were in terminal decline but he got a tune out of Holmes, Dick and Ward and they were players other could follow, particularly Wardy who bled blue and amber and had attitude that in comparison could make JJB & Peacock look mildly disinterested.
It’s a different world now but if you run harder with and without the ball than the opposition you’ve got a chance and we need that now.
It feels to me just the like the 80’s, an out of touch, useless board/ senior management.
Never thought I’d think that with GH.

| Let's be honest that press conference was an absolute mess. How anyone can see that and not want to give JJB a slap round the chops is beyond me.
JJB and his entire generation of players need to be expunged from the club's current structure.
Constantly banging on about how good things were in his day and how he did things as a player does nothing for the current playing group. He almost openly admits trying to forge them in a mirror of that generation. Just stop it - we need them to find their own direction, stop being compared to the past and approach the sport as it is now not 10 or 20 years ago.

| Yeah the god talk and incessant references to the past and kev have tipped me over. Along with the hallways of history the players will always be in their shadow it's not moving them forward.

| Agree regarding the lack of genuine props. This is not hindsight either, most fans called it before the season started and then losing Holroyd only made a poor situation worse. A better set off forwards would definitely help but even so Sezer and Austin have been a massive let down.
Sezer especially looks to be putting in the minimum effort. Both players defence has been way below the standard required and they are a liability. When Sezer runs onto the ball like he did 1st half at wakey and early second half yesterday he looks a decent player, but he doesn't look like he can be d at times. That is not all down to poor props, its a lack of desire. Neither player look like an improvement on Gale. I would be happy for both to be dropped but our options are pretty much no existent.

| We've heard a lot of game analyses from the likes of keV, Danny, JP, JJB, Chev, Long. All great players but no great insight into tactics or indeed what made them great. No greater logic in employing them as coaches than in signing up Baz or Tez. The worst aspect is that you'd imagine the youngsters with potential, upon hearing what they have to say, probably think "yeah yeah, we know that already". Player development? I think not. A diminishing of that potential is already showing in some imo.

Spot on.
I'm shocked at how poor the pair of them look.
Both painfully slow and dreadful in defence.
At least Austin looks like he's trying at times, Sezer looks like he can't be bothered.
Get rid of both in the end of season clear out for me.
