| Quote: Boots "In my opinion it is simple . We have employed a coach to win matches and make us competitive with the top 4 /6 , playing organised and entertaining rugby ,with some good recruitment for the future.
Last season - we reached a Grand final - positive result / recruitment questionable .
This season - our tactics ( or lack of them ) have been worked out by all teams. Last years recruitment has now shown to have been poor ( dire in some cases ) and after Saturdays interview, it seems our coach wants to coach the team for the way he thinks the game SHOULD be played . He is deluded.
Tactics today need to include line speed , pressure the opposition, kick to corners ,a hooker who can make a break, get repeat sets , 3 men in every tackle and push the rules as far as you can each week ( just watch Saints ) - everything we DONT do ( and obviously not coached to do ).
Smith is stubborn and will not change from his vision of how the game should be played , so that is why he has to go NOW , so we start looking at next season . If we leave it to the end of season , player wise we will be left with the dregs that nobody else wants eg. Lasone .
Smith is in a results business - end of . Sack him now.'"
Is this a serious post or tounge in cheek?

Lam has done a great job with Leigh. He's also had two years to spend big on players entirely of his own closing. Smith has not had that luxury.

| Leigh have been very fortunate with injuries (lack of) to key players this year which has helped their cause.
They have however been playing great Rugby so fair play to them.

It's obvious that we're on opposing sides of the fence, but one thing I would acknowledge is that Smith needs to show the ability to adapt and not flinch from the more pragmatic/cynical side of the game. Otherwise sides will just capitalise on his corinthian approach. Of course that won't address the fundamental problem, that being that the players in our spine positions just aren't collectively good enough. I believe what he achieved (with a rabble) last season has earned him the right to address that.

Our 1, 6 & 7 collectively aren't at top 3 level - yes if they all play well they can look good, but the 6&7 especially just have never got any cinsistency, I actually like Austin and I think this year he has stepped up but Sezer has just been a total flop, between inconsistent performances and injuries its just not been good enough.

| Pretty much spot on.
Our organisation, leadership, game control and structure have suffered.

| We can't play to a system because we only have one halfback who can control a game in Sezer, and he doesn't play consistently well enough. None of our other options has a clue how to manage a game, except maybe Sinfield, who's still an absolute tyro.
We could get away with that a bit more if our 9 was more of a playmaker, but O'Connor's still learning and is more of a workhorse than anything. We could also maybe get away with it if Myler didn't dissolve into mush every single time he's needed to act as a halfback, which at his age and with his experience ought to be an easy move, but like Sutcliffe he turns to jelly when he's needed to stand up and lead the team rather than be a support act.
Until we get our 1,6, and 7 sorted we'll continue to be hot and cold, and our best just won't be good enough.

Is Luke Brooks an organiser/playmaker? (I haven't watched much NRL in the recent years) I think there may be something in the rumours TBH

I would say he’s at his best as running half back (something we also really need) but his organizational ability is better than either Sezer or Austin. Hard to compare SL and NRL half backs. What looks average in OZ tends to be MOS stuff over here.

Rohan has mentioned before he like running halfbacks so maybe he is targeting him

I agree, especially on Austin. He's been very good this year and will be a miss if he does indeed leave. Sezer - the least said the better.

| We need to push the boat out and get a qualified director of rugby to takeover from GH. Watching GH constantly trying to put out the fires he's caused got boring about 6 years ago. We literally can not move forward with him making the decisions because his hit rate is so poor. It's very similar to Orta at Leeds, there's only so long the club can outrun so many poor decisions.

| Smith today said if there's anything in the Luke Brooks rumours he knows nothing about it!,also we are keeping some of our overseas/ooc players and by the sounds of it he's pinning his hope's on Fusitua to turn the season around!
