For second rowers we have

I guess the point is that beyond Martin there is little proven quality. Ward is good but injury prone, Sutcliffe and Smith are meh, and the rest are kids.

Also ferres is capable of playing in the middle too.

It's not a great resigning but it does have some merits

Dont see any merits to keeping Ferres, id much rather see us give game time to a 19/20 yearold who isnt proven, or hasnt yet had the chance to show theyr quality, than waste cap and game time on a mid 30s yearold whos proved rubbish in all but a couple of games over 4 year. We'v also gave Donaldson a new deal who offers much more than Ferres.

Whatever the management see in him, it certainly isnt what he does on the pitch.

Quote: christopher "I disagree on Merrin as he is worth the £150k he commands on the cap but agree on the rest of the post.

I’m not really expecting much from next year but seeing some young uns getting game time, players like newman, oledski, smith, johnson kicking on and not being in a relegation fight will be ok by me to be honest'"

Oledzki will, I reckon, offer more grunt up front this year. Another year tougher, he should start showing signs of being a handful to put down now. And Newman must have learned so much from last year. A good pre-season working on his positioning and defence, the lad might be real gold next time.

I dont think anyone is advocating signing poor players for the sake of it but nobody can think we can go into next year with the hooking and prop options we currently have?

Where has the ambition gone? In years gone by we had a great hooker in Diskin and we added Danny Buderus. We added Gareth Ellis to the title winning record breaking 2004 squad.

Now we sit back and say Dwyer and young Corey arent the answer but who is there available? Its the clubs job to identify and add quality. Leave no stone unturned and get quality in. Leeds is still an attractive club to play for.

Has the fanbase and the club given up?

Sorry re-signing Ferres has zero merit whatsoever he isnt good enough.
You can count his genuinely good performances on one hand & he's a walking penalty machine.
He should be nowhere the 1st Team nor the Club.

I agree it's a big disappointment if we retain him.

I disagree with your black and white assessment of 'zero merit', although it's not always easy to see what that merit is. Yes, this is not announcement that is going to sell season tickets. But assuming the club want him to stay there must be some positive reason for this. Let's think... He can be a strong defender, and we still need some experienced backrowers alongside the kids coming through who will at the least need some rotation. But I'm not convinced they have the balance right, especially now that it seems Merrin is committed, Donaldson has extended, and we have Ward, Martin, Mellor and others in this position. Are they planning to make Ferres into a prop?! Struggling to see how this makes sense, unless they are worried about Merrin leaving mid-season.

Back row makes no sense even if Merrin leaves. We've seen how little value experience is if not backed up by quality so that makes no sense either. Prop might a bit so long as it means Merrin stays out of the front row where he's wasted.

Whilst I'm on no-nos, I'd get Agar to write "Never play Sutcliffe in the halfs" as many times as necessary to make sure he gets it.

I think the reason for keeping Ferris is to stick him in the front row. I think he played there a couple a times last year. I don't personally rate him, but he's clearly popular within the club - shown from being made captain. He's also one of the few players in our team with a bit of niggle and prepared to do the dirty stuff, which you need in a team.

I think it will be a Gareth Hock style transition from back row to prop. He's big enough for it, and clearly not the got the speed to play out wide as he did at Hudds.

If Myler stays, barring a freak set of injuries there should be no need for Sutcliffe to play in the halves at all.

Although Furner is gone, I imagine the 3-year plan is still Sinfield's - and we'll be looking to make clear progress next year before really looking to challenge again from 2021.

They'll know that the young lads need more time, and we still have a load of contractual obligations we're trying to shed in order the renew the senior end of the side - clearly that's ongoing.

We aren't going to win anything until our juniors can really compete physically and mentally at SL level, and until/unless we sprinkle some international quality around them.

It's not impossible that we could resolve the key weaknesses before next season begins; Singo, Myler could go, and then if Cuthbo, Merrin or Peteru went we'd have unlocked the door a bit.

It will be fascinating to see which of the young lads makes progression during pre-season this year.

I hear this from people a lot about how Ferris is good for the tough stuff and the dirty work, but I just don't see it. I don't see him rushing in to take those tough hit ups when you're stuck on your own line with the defence shooting up looking for a kill, I don't see him taking those tough 'up the guts' drives in the middle, and even the niggly/dorty stuff, all I ever see is him grabbing someones collar, usually once the rest of the team are there separating it. He's a plastic hard man.

I like many many others will be pretty disgusted if we resign Ferres, been an awful signing and does not detest enough anther contract under any circumstances, we fans do not no all the ins and outs of what does on behind closed doors, but he brings nothing in the field, but gives plenty to the opposition.
