I could still see the Brierly one happening but I can't see it being dependent on if Leigh fail in promotion. Seems way too risky as it leaves no time to look elsewhere.

Leeds have until end of September to pull out of the deal for brierley if they find anyone else. The deal for him is dependent on promotion for Leigh, there is quite a few Leigh players on these deals with top SL clubs.

Widdop would be a real top signing and great fit for our club.Of course, he would not come with the superstar absolute superstar reputation of a cronk or Thurston but both of them are 31/32 now and on their last legs as far as world class status goes.Widdop is mid 20's with a good decade service to give, with the added bonus of being an excellent kicker to seamlessly replace Sinfield in that department. It would be an awesome signing imo and i would prefer him over any of the 30 plus brigade from the NRL.

| Personally wouldn't want either breirley or houghton.
Widdop would be a good addition though. And IMO would be a very good fit for our club

| I somehow cannot see us signing Brierley and Widdop whilst McGuire is around.
I can see Burrow leaving which makes his 2 year deal look odd.

| Anybody saying Widdop wouldn't be an amazing coup should be more greatful! He would be amazing. He has all the temperament of Sinfield with a better passing/kicking game and twice the speed!

Sounds even more risky for Leigh. They miss out and they lose Brierly and 3 or 4 others perhaps??? Again how do they rebuild a team to challenge next year on such a late timescale? Although it wouldn't surprise me if they are so confident of success that they haven't planned for possible failure.

| Whereas Widdop would be a good signing I would regard him as a TOP player. To be a TOP TOP player you have to be called Thurston or Cameron Smith. The latter can kick and can also play 9, 6, & 7......just saying.

TOP TOP players (Thurston, Smith, Inglis, Shaun Johnson) are not possible signings, with or without marquee status. So let's stop dreaming...

| I'm pretty sure Widdopp said he was sorted with the Dragons when these rumours first came up some time ago. I'd also suggest that if it comes down to money, Leeds wouldn't be anywhere near what NRL clubs could offer - the exchange rate is still not what it was and the tax-free loophole has gone, not to mention the NRL cap is going to increase rapidly and there is currently a shortage of top class halfbacks in the NRL meaning they're massively sought after, pushing their wages up. About the only thing a SL side could offer in return is length of contract, so I'd suggest if there's anything to this story its likely to be an older player on a long-term deal.
I'd say Gallen is a more likely bet if you're looking at 'top' players. Happy to be wrong if it is Widdopp, I just don't see it happening.

| For what it's worth... Widdop would make sense. My contact within the club worked with him for England and at the time he said that Leeds was the only club he would move to if he came to SL. I know we are or have been in for him, and money was the only issue.
The fact we have signed more overseas players than we normally do, I think a young Englishman to replace Sinfield would make total sense.

Sometimes people from the most ardent Bradford backgrounds end up at Leeds.
