| Quote: christopher "Maguire brought a style of rugby to this country that was roundly criticised, wigan were a horrible team to watch under him and they still have some of that in them.
Tony Smith was a great coach whi got criticised. Onhere just like McDermott
Powell will become a great coach when he can actually coach a team to win something and his incessant whinging does him no favours'"
Wigan wernt boring to watch under maguire, they were actually the second top points scorers in the league in both of his seasons over here, they had some fantastic attacking structures which other teams struggled to cope with. The criticism of him was that he was a proponent of the wrestle when they were defending, He was the best in the league at it, and it resulted in the oppositions play the ball being snail paced. A lot of people didnt like it, but thats what good coaches do.
Powells worked wonders with the hand he was dealt when he arrived at cas, he's turned them from relegation fodder, into a top club. I consider him a very good coach.

I didn’t say boring i said horrible
Both him and Powell are good coaches (maguire more so) Powell needs to win one of the big games before he can be classed as great

| Maguire was innovative and a brilliant coach. he also coached thuggish tactics aimed at injuring players.they played an away game, not Leeds, and a member of staff told me they had a sheet on the wall documenting every opposition player, his recent I juries and operations.
brilliant? yes. but a scumbag too

Il take that response as a sign that your struggling to consructivly disagree with anything i said regarding maguire.
For me Powells a great coach now at super league level.

Ive say d maguire is a great coach, I personally just didn’t like the way that Wigan team played and the wrestling tactics is still having s negative effect on SL
Powells teams have lost any big game they have been in, once he gets that monkey off his back he would be classed as a great coach
And funnily enough McDermotts tactically out classed powell in 2 major finals.

There's nothing new under the sun. Perhaps it will take a three decade period with an empty trophy cabinet for them to stop being so spoiled by success.'"
Im sure you'll find GH sealed TS' exit when he put him forward for the England job before the season even started.
Also if you actually read the posts not one of them has anything to do with being spoiled by success many of us have already done the 3 decades of winning zip.
Every player & coach has a shelf life in every sport on the planet so why should we be different?

| Brian Mac won nothing at London, so has he become a great coach since then? You shouldn't judge a coach purely on winning big games. The resources he has available help a bit, so the coaches rated the tops tend to be at clubs with advantages.

Im saying his time is up & wrt him being any good or not i think what he's done trophy wise is excellent but i stick by the opinion that he has no plan B & can't adapt when injuries bite.

He can't, or the team can't adapt because there is no structure under him, never has been it all lies behind having a team that plays what it sees and usually with a fullish team he has enough ability on the field to overcome the opposition but we have always looked a mess when a few key men have been missing.2016 was shocking throughout and if it wasn't for Segeyaro coming in and taking a grip we could have been up against it.this season, thank god we started ok and should avoid middle 8s because right now you don't see where the next win is coming from losing to Hudds at home in their current state is embarrassing.
Again, great man manager and motivator for the big games but i don't see any real coaching style or system he has brought to the club in his tenure and we just look lost at sea whenever a few injuries drop.

It wasn't McD though it was Sinfield and Mcguire. He's struggling now he's on his own.

As i bleed blue and amber i will be an arm chair critic of the club till i die as im guessing every regular poster on here will too.
Even if we go 15/20 years without a trophy from here i doubt i will be on this board in 2038 yearning to go back to the Mcdermott era again simply due to the way the rugby has been played under him.
