| Quote: Ferdy "Think its a bit harsh calling him dead wood! Dont get me wrong he isnt my favorite player and i do think he has become a bit of a one trick pony, but a few seasons ago he seemed to be developing more to his game. And lets hope he gets back to that form. One thing you cannot question is his effort and desire, and having thought about it i am quite happy he is staying and hope he will improve this year and prove people wrong.'"
Hopefully the arrival of a coach who spends more time engaged with the players on the training field and less time sleeping off the night before will see the regression of some of the established squad members halted in 2011.

Suggest you understand what you wrote, let alone what others write...IMO - O stands for opinion!
I would also accept Rob's best role as SH seen as that is where every coach he has played under has played him (except for a couple of spells).

Fair comment, but, to play Devil's advocate, do you not think he would be very good at hooker regularly. Jumping out of the ruck into broken field with slow moving, concrete booted forwards all around. Sometimes it's worth taking the chance as it may rejuvenate someone's career.

I get what you're saying, but it doesn't require him to totally change his position, he does this anyway. I think to say he is an ineffective SH when he hasn't had a decent pack of forwards creating space for two seasons is slightly knee-jerk. I'm not saying he's the best thing since sliced bread. I think to judge him as harshly as some are, with the said in mind, is unfair to say the least. What other SH would have been able to play a better game, considering his injuries, with the pack we had at the time?

I don't think he is ineffective at SH, he is a very good scrum half, but he may be more effective in the impact hooker role. As we have a plethora of hooking options, it seems that he will not be utilised in this role. It would free us up to employ an organising SH which may see Danny (when he returns from injury) really get the chance to shine again. I think this option could make us much more dynamic.
But it is all just hot air. I am glad he is staying and hope we do see some more of the Rob of a few years ago.

Scrum-halves can make things easier for packs too, by providing them with smart ball and putting them through gaps. That's never been Burrow's game, but perhaps that (along with a better kicking game) is what we need from a scrum-half when the pack isn't capable of opening up the field on-demand for a nippy support runner to look good.

Plus this kind of organising scrum half will make room for our nippy stand off to best utilise his abilities, which would put the defence of the opposition in disarray, creating gaps around the rook for a speedy little fella to take advantage of.
