| Given Hall's development this season is there now not a case for swopping the wingers again?
Donald showed last season he is a quality player the swop of sides should give him the confidence he desperately needs.

| Quote: Highbury Rhino "We were consistently better in all departments...however Hull were so poor that this wasn't difficult.
I can just about see that we are playing okay (defensively we are certainly looking as good as I have ever seen us)but in all honesty we have looked and continue to look pretty ordinary in attacking terms.
For me the jury is out on the Buderus/Diskin dual hooker combination, we look flat and lacking sparkle in the half backs (Mc Guire looks injured to me), the right side of the threequarters Smith/Donald looks some way short of world class although there are glimpses from both that they could click and become a real force but it ain't happening yet. The left side is looking better although how long Senior can keep playing consistently at a top class level for is a worrying question Hall has the makings and is as good on the flank as anyone else running around the league at the moment. Webb beginning to find the form we saw for big chunks of 2007/2008 but again nothing very consistent.
Still we are in good enough shape to mount a real challenge although the failure to land Eastwood and or another world class threequarter could easily come back to bite us as the last half of the season unfolds'"
You know I have been quite critical of the side this season, but you have gone beyond me.
Earlier in season we were winning games, which IMO the oppossition was much worse than Hull last night.
I thought last night was a terrific performance, were the scoreline actually flattered Hull.
You are correct on the Buderus/Diskin situation. It did not work the last time we tried it with Millard and Diskin, and it does not look right this time. IMO Diskin should not be in the squad.
I dissagree on McGuire, who was simply outstanding last night. Best performance he has put in in last couple of seasons for me. And for me it is simply that both him and Burrow play better when they are not together. I have said that for years, despite winning 3 titles with those halfbacks.
I am a critic of Donald this season, but thought the combination of him and Smith looked superb. Smith is once again proving that you can play the lad anywhere and he will excell. New position, been out for weeks, but put in a top effort.
But like you, I still think we need another forward to see help us regain that title. I was certainly dissapointed in the amount of miss tackles from Kirke last night.

| Quote: tvoc "The giving away of penalties is still a major concern. Another count lost again tonight and comfortably so at 7-11. A better team than Hull will punish such indiscipline somewhere down the line.
That aside the errors were down tonight at 5 knock ons, 1 forward pass, 1 intercept pass, 1 kick out on the full. A big improvement on the last few games.'"
Worries me too. Most seem needless for infringements at the PTB as well which is easily solved.

I would like to see that quantified.
Because from what I saw, the majority of the penalties I thought we conceeded were for offside.
That been the case, and I repeat what I have put most times this season, it is completely open to refs interpretation, which is near always inconsistent.

Who wouldn't miss a player of Ellis' quality? With HKR and Saints to visit Headingley and recovery time on Challenge Cup weekends a top two finish seems highly probable.

I can think of three separate incidents off the top of my head for stuff that happens after initial contact has been made.
Maybe its just because of the way I react to them, rather than offside which you kind of accept will happen once or twice in a game.

There were at least two for unnecessary high shots (Burgess (again) and Diskin. Two were for stripping the ball 2 on 1, One was for obstruction (Senior). That leaves 6 for other offences, I seem to remember 2 fot offside.

Like Leicester said, that maybe he reacted more to the play the ball because it annoys him. Maybe I reacted more to the offside decisions, because I felt he was only pulling that on one side.
That said, I still think the offside been pulled for was more than you said.

I remember Diskin in the first half in Hulls "22" on a 1st tackle and someone in the second half, on our line where M Alibert gave the penalty right in front of the posts. They stood out because of the importance of their position and timing. Not as bad as Hull giving away 2 penalties for interference on the last tackle though

Agree completly with you on both points there. Kirke misses too many tackles for me. We look a better pack when Ali's on the park. Our attack looks so much better and he gives us a bit more go forward. Our back row needs improving but HQ know that - hence the move for Eastwood.

Talking of that, i watched the game again last night and you should have heard Phil Clarke let out a huge groan of disapointment when Hull did that. He seemed to be so annoyed and disapointed that Hull had done that as if he was supporting Hull. I couldn't believe what i'd just heard.

| What last night proved to me is that you cannot play with three half backs and maintain fluidity.
I have stated before this side now needs breaking up - part of that would be one of Sinfield/Burrow/McGuire going.
McGuire was outstanding last night as was Webb and these two really gave the attack some buzz - my MOM by some distance was Ali - if he can play like this for the rest of the season we could even finish top.
