| I watched the incident last night on Boots n all the tries and I am not sure Ali swung a punch at Raleigh! I think Ali tried to push Raleigh off him rather than punch, as I don't think Ali liked being held by Raleigh when he did not have the ball. However, Raleigh stands and then Ali clearly gives him some verbal while getting up, then Raleigh swings at him (and misses), but it was a clear and deliberate effort to punch Ali (albeit clearly provoked).
I think the Ref got the call spot on by binning them both and also giving Leeds the penalty and I also think that Raleigh was the only one of the two guilty of actual intended foul play warranting a disciplinary appearance and that is why he was summoned to appear. I think that, given Ali had clearly given him some verbal, a fine and not a ban was a good call by the RFL.
I think anyone who can not see that this would be a fair reflection of the incident needs to take their respective tinted specs off!

I think Andy Raleigh having received a 'written warning on record' a mere five weeks ago from the same disciplinary panel can indeed count himself fortunate to have escaped a playing ban for a second Guilty verdict of the season.

| Got to love the "lucky dip" disciplinary panel eh?
Thats almost as good as banning players for games that mysteriously co-incide with important playoff / league / cup games.

Not to worry they balance it up by banning players that should clearly have been sent off on the day.
www.therfl.co.uk/about/disciplin ... hp?id=1674
I think the RFL should also have had words with the Salford try scorer (Tyrer) whose try celebration consisted of hoofing the ball with considerable force which impacted the face of an opponent (Sharp).
Whether accidental or not that has never been an appropriate act of celebration.
I realise it was at the Stoop (and as such no spectators were therefore in any danger) but I've seen it done at Headingley where on one occasion a female spectator took the full force of the ball in the face. Many thanks to Steve Prescott on that occasion, I hadn't laughed so much in ages even though it wasn't in the least bit funny.

Did not realise that but I do think that handbags (which this was) in most cases is less serious than reckless or deliberate foul play. I do now think he was fortunate though. I suspect that Flying Perp will not see it that way though eh?

I think it was clear Red but we do seem to have this problem with linesman not willing to tell the ref what he thought and if he does the ref's then following through unless they have personally seen it. It is clearly the linesman job, as I understand the guidance, to keep an eye of the kicker after the ball has been kicked and not the ref's. The report system is the flaw in the rules for me and gives the ref an excuse not to follow through with punishment, even if the linesman has seen and commented on the incident.
I would hope the RFL would indeed send Tyrer a letter and tell him to calm down his overenthusiastic celebrations, poor old Sharp got it full in the mush... owww!

I agree, I've always been annoyed by the report system because as you say it gives the ref a way of not following through with punishment. It should be used for incidents where none of the officials have seen whats happened (and therefore no penalty can be given either way). But far too often its used for things like high tackles where the ref gives a penalty for a high tackle but then puts it on report. If the ref has seen the high tackle he must have seen the incident and so should punish the offender appropriately, not kop out by putting it on report

Fully agree with ya Arma-dildo (see what I did with your sig too ), I think Andy Raleigh should have been signed high and never be allowed to play again for fighting with himself after no provocation whatsoever. The ref should have reduced the Giants to 2 men and Leeds should have been given a head start of 306 points, just to keep everything fair. Hope this is ok by you all but if not we are willing to tie our arms behind our backs next time
Maybe the RFL have had a look at Raleigh's record, he is hardly Mike tyson!!!!, maybe they have viewed the incident and realised Ali threw the 1st punch off the floor (Ali is hardly Mike tyson either by the way) then when Ali stood up it kicked off, handbags at 2 paces tbh and if we going to start banning players for this all good and well as long as every team/player is treated the same. I have said before maybe we should have a guy from RFL sat in stands at every game with monitor of game, wired upto ref, then as ref is dealing with incident the guy in stand could review the incident and have a little word in his ear as to how to proceed seen as the touchies seem incapable.
All the best for the rest of your season

Well, how right (yet again I know!) was I proved to be. You could not resist could you and also clearly did not read my previous post to the one you quote?
You are predictable and you are failing to even present a reasoned counter argument to anyone's posts about this or any other incident I suspect. Everyone has slightly tinted glasses on of course, even me, but yours are clearly blinding you and have a detrimental effect on your cognisant reasoning ability. You should see a Doctor, no honest, I am worried about you and think you might need some care in the community support.
PS: Signed High.... he is he a good player this High bloke? Oh, sorry, got it, you mean sine die as in the latin for 'without day'!

PS
Thanks for clearing that up for us Armadillo, sorry should have looked it up, by the way my counter argument (which was proved right by the way) was that Raleigh did not strike the 1st blow!!I know you hate to be wrong but never mind.
Oh by the way I see you got your Loiner specs back on judging by this latest post, looks like we all guilty of it from time to timenot being at Hudds[/size), two in the WCC and the one above (seen on tv) that a ref of his experience and supposed understand of the dynamics of the game should have been different. If I had seen Child, for instance, make these calls I would have said they were wrong, but his lack of experience was the key and you can only get experience through ref'ing leading games. The two at the WCC being the Buderus spear-tackle, which should have seen the Melbourne player in the bin at least and also his failure to sin-bin the Mlebourne player who was pinged for holding us down near their line minutes after Silverwood had issued a warning to the captain for the same issue further up-field. As Jo Frost (Supernanny) knows, you only ever issue one final warning, if not you have lost control of the situation.
I agree totally with your assessment on Diskin, he was heading into the tackle and started to commit himself to that tackle as Grix was brought to the deck by the other Leeds tackler (not sure whom now). He instinctively went and laid hands on the player on the deck and realised that he had to move quick as he was a split second late into that tackle. He sprung up very, very quickly and for me mitigated any possible issue with the unintentional 'half-flop'. Silverwood should have both the experience and understanding of the dynamics of the game to realise that Diskin's move was not intentional or designed to slow the game down in anyway, in fact on realising his error Diskin was up immediately, well before Grix had been released from the tackle by the tacking Leeds player and it had no impact of the quick ptb. However, [sizewhat Silverwood chose to do was ping Diskin for an offence that was strictly against the rules but had no detrimental impact on the game[/size (Oh Please
All in all summed up very fairly there Armadillo, Silverwood robbed ya TWICE!!!
Never mind it's Ganson against Hull K.R.

Yup, Listen mate we have got used to it at the Giants but I am just enjoying watching a team play attractive RL, be very solid defensively and not get on the refs back!!!!
You ought to try it sometime?
If we win owt it would be a big bonus but we don't set our sights too high.
