| I would have to agree with flyingprop on this one Ali does swing at him from the floor and to be fair to Raleigh he stands and waits for him to get up before having a wild swing.

If you & Flying Prop consider that Ali's actions are equal to what Raleigh did then I despair.

| Quote: "Huddersfield Giants star Andy Raleigh appeared in front of tonight's RFL Disciplinary Committee and pleaded guilty to the charge of striking Leeds Rhinos' Ali Lauititi.
Raleigh was sin binned during the game for the offence and on reflection admitted that it was the wrong thing to do and did not set a good example to spectators.
After reviewing the incident the committee accepted that there was a degree of provocation from his opponent and, as a result, the offence did not merit a suspension but a £300 fine.'"

Sorry mate but nowhere have I condoned what Andy did nor have I said it's equal whatsoever, what I did say numerous times and was told I was talking rubbish was that Ali swung 1st, that's all, seems after reviewing the incident the RFL tend to agree.
Gone quiet on this issue now on here?

I already have over the way we played.
I hope Friday's effort's are better.
It's not for want of effort, though, it's a general lack of nous - particularly near the line.

| I watched the incident last night on Boots n all the tries and I am not sure Ali swung a punch at Raleigh! I think Ali tried to push Raleigh off him rather than punch, as I don't think Ali liked being held by Raleigh when he did not have the ball. However, Raleigh stands and then Ali clearly gives him some verbal while getting up, then Raleigh swings at him (and misses), but it was a clear and deliberate effort to punch Ali (albeit clearly provoked).
I think the Ref got the call spot on by binning them both and also giving Leeds the penalty and I also think that Raleigh was the only one of the two guilty of actual intended foul play warranting a disciplinary appearance and that is why he was summoned to appear. I think that, given Ali had clearly given him some verbal, a fine and not a ban was a good call by the RFL.
I think anyone who can not see that this would be a fair reflection of the incident needs to take their respective tinted specs off!

I think Andy Raleigh having received a 'written warning on record' a mere five weeks ago from the same disciplinary panel can indeed count himself fortunate to have escaped a playing ban for a second Guilty verdict of the season.

| Got to love the "lucky dip" disciplinary panel eh?
Thats almost as good as banning players for games that mysteriously co-incide with important playoff / league / cup games.

Not to worry they balance it up by banning players that should clearly have been sent off on the day.
www.therfl.co.uk/about/disciplin ... hp?id=1674
I think the RFL should also have had words with the Salford try scorer (Tyrer) whose try celebration consisted of hoofing the ball with considerable force which impacted the face of an opponent (Sharp).
Whether accidental or not that has never been an appropriate act of celebration.
I realise it was at the Stoop (and as such no spectators were therefore in any danger) but I've seen it done at Headingley where on one occasion a female spectator took the full force of the ball in the face. Many thanks to Steve Prescott on that occasion, I hadn't laughed so much in ages even though it wasn't in the least bit funny.

Did not realise that but I do think that handbags (which this was) in most cases is less serious than reckless or deliberate foul play. I do now think he was fortunate though. I suspect that Flying Perp will not see it that way though eh?

I think it was clear Red but we do seem to have this problem with linesman not willing to tell the ref what he thought and if he does the ref's then following through unless they have personally seen it. It is clearly the linesman job, as I understand the guidance, to keep an eye of the kicker after the ball has been kicked and not the ref's. The report system is the flaw in the rules for me and gives the ref an excuse not to follow through with punishment, even if the linesman has seen and commented on the incident.
I would hope the RFL would indeed send Tyrer a letter and tell him to calm down his overenthusiastic celebrations, poor old Sharp got it full in the mush... owww!

I agree, I've always been annoyed by the report system because as you say it gives the ref a way of not following through with punishment. It should be used for incidents where none of the officials have seen whats happened (and therefore no penalty can be given either way). But far too often its used for things like high tackles where the ref gives a penalty for a high tackle but then puts it on report. If the ref has seen the high tackle he must have seen the incident and so should punish the offender appropriately, not kop out by putting it on report
