Sometimes the mistakes you make when you're younger shape who you become. And if he can stop our youngsters making similar mistakes, it's a positive

Exactly, I just took it as read to be honest that they're happy with the character he is now so anything from 10 years ago is bordering on irrelevant. Sinfield would never do it otherwise.

If he can get McLelland to do half the things Long was capable of on the field then we will have a good replacement for Gale when he finally retires.

I guess you can't have a cart full of "good apples" all the time if you want to push the boundaries and create something new. As has been rightly said, people can and do change of course. As a technical coach I'm sure he can bring something, particularly to the younger lads coming through.

I'd be surprised if this was for more than a year or two, maybe as a skills kick-start. We will see, jury out.

Long played for St. Judes, but I take your point. I could tell you quite a few stories about him. He didn't last long coaching the academy at Wigan.

I’ve no idea what Long is like as a coach but he’s had a few different experiences and likely will be building knowledge and skills. He was of course a top player. He may also be able to advise a few younger players of what not to do as well as improving their game.

Also worth pointing out we’ve already got people on and off the pitch who have done much worse than Long in the past.

I think it’s an exciting appointment, one thing he can’t do much about is our team could do with more pace for mine.
