Because James Deighton announced yesterday on twitter that "a West Yorkshire rugby league legend" would be retiring today. I think the term legend has probably been stretched a tad in this case. |

Oh - right... although saying Dickens is a Rugby League legend (or ledgend as I saw on epic fail tattoos) is, as you say, a stretch of anyone's imagination. |

Been a great servant to their team for many years and now a Radio Leeds pundit.

Rugby League doesn't begin and end with what is achieved at the top level though - and I'd say it is appropriate to use the term given the fact that he has played over 400 games - at prop - since breaking into the Fev team as a teenager (he's now 32)...
If he had not decided to retire (I believe to take up a coaching post at Wakefield), then next season he would have more than likely have broken the all-time appearance record for Fev - which has stood since 1934. |

But it was "West Yorkshire Rugby League Legend" not just Rugby League. Fev applies here, and he is a Legend of that club. |
