| Speaking of problems in Leeds, I notice that The Headrow has once again become gridlocked. Does anyone know why this has started up again?

| Quote: Andy Gilder "Had there been a little more rhyme and reason to the way the replacement crews were used I wouldn't have bothered how long it went on for.
As it was we had our bins emptied three weeks in a row, then missed two weeks, did a week and now haven't had them done for the last three.
Still, fortnightly collections will be the norm before long so having four weeks rubbish piled up because the bin crews didn't empty them last time will be the norm.'"
Its been like that for ages in Nottm, well Broxtowe actually. Green Bins one week, Black the next. Does actually make you think about what you throw away, and what you recycle

| Quote: Andy Gilder "That'll be because a strike is called by a union for its members and based on the wishes of those members. Why should those who are not members of the union and do not pay it subscriptions have the right to influence whether its members can or cannot take industrial action?
But they also expect/intimidate those non members to strike too otherwise the effectiveness of the action would be severely diminished
When I first joined the Civil Service I also joined PCS (or CPSA as it was at that time). It took me about six months to figure out that the sole aim of the local representatives were to make it onto regional or national committees so they could get more paid time off work. I decided at that point my subscriptions would be better spent elsewhere.'"

| Quote: Captain McAnkleTap "My missus' brother-in-law is a Leeds binman. He said the main reason they've voted in favour of the deal now is because most binmen have a clause in their contract stating that, after 12 weeks of consistent strike action, the contract can be terminated.
Not sure how true that is, or how it would actually work in practice (contravenes Employment Law surely?), but there you go.'"
Sacking them all after 12 weeks would have been perfectly legal
You have hit the nail on the head
Quote: Captain McAnkleTap "The dismissal of any striking employee during the first 12 weeks of lawfully organised official strike action will be deemed unfair. If, as an employer, you lock out your workforce during this protected period, the lock out days are ignored when calculating the 12 week period. However, you can dismiss an employee after the 12 week period if you can show you have made genuine attempts to negotiate. This must include the proper use of any joint disputes resolution procedure.'"

Why the change of heart 6/7 weeks ago 90+% vote against the deal - now 75% vote for the same deal?
So the workers have lost two months pay for nothing - unions!!! no skin of their nose those their still getting paid strike or no strike'"
they got strike pay from the union

If you were worried about things getting boring, don't worry. The bus drivers are considering strike action.

To be honest, bring it on. The last time they were on strike (3 years ago?) I got to and from work in record time.

| Without exception, every union representative I have ever come across has only taken the post for the perks they get from being a union representative.
Not one of the slimeballs has any interest in standing up for the rank & file workers. It’s all about getting time off to attend union meeting/ training and getting your expenses claims in.
Anyway it’s about time them lazy barstewards got back to work and emptied my frekkin bins

I'm on tenterhooks here, what on earth will we all do if the bus conductors go on strike

| Quote: Head High Tackle "I used to be in the union but after having my job evaluated and having my salary frozen they couldnt do anything about it so I left the union.
For the next few months and even sometimes now I get snidey comments from the union leader about bottlers not up for the fight.
He doesnt seem to understand that I left because they didnt fight for one of their members.'"
In most cases you're correct. They're pretty useless when needed. The concept of unions is great, but the reality is a different matter.

| My bins have been emptied once in 10 weeks, I have no use of a car during the week and have still managed quite nicely without them.
Its a dirty horrible job and the workers have been treated shoddily by management, but it has proved to me i pay too much Council Tax for very poor services generally.

I thought that! Think the last conductor I saw on buses was the one who checked my saverstrip!

Do you mean 'conductor' or 'inspector'?
A ticket inspector was on my bus a couple of weeks ago.
