He had a choice, go to Newcastle, Birmingham et al knowing that Leeds would see next to nothing in cash and would probably fold before any installments kick in or go to Man Utd and the 8mil would probably keep the wolves from the door of Leeds for a month or two at least. Or sit on his booty and watch the club implode.

The added bonus of being vilified for the rest of his career and hated by those who professed to love him was by the by and for the most part he must have known what was to befall him.

It is strange as certain other Leeds players walzed off in the sunset with absolutley no comeback whatsoever Viduka for example albeit not the only player guilty of selling himself short as well of Leeds, is hailed, yet a home grown Leeds Utd player is vilified.

Go figure.

Well i tell you, I know Alan's Aunty and Uncle well and his Mum n Dad (to a slightly lesser extent) but he loves Leeds utd and always will. He had to do what he had to do. Top lad and can't fault him.

That goes over most Leeds fans heads though all they care about is that he went to "them"

I somehow doubt most fans would care less about him or where he is now if he had gone about his business, like say David Batty (Leeds through and through but nothing fancy just got on with the game) You know what our fans are like though, its how he promised he would never go to Man United, slagged off Man United most opportunities and he was our poster boy who would hold the badge or kiss the badge on his shirt nearly everytime he scored, everyone loved him. Also sticking the fingers up at the crowd in his last game for us at Stamford Bridge just after the send off he got from us the game before still grates people!

Fair enough he had his reasons to go, we were deep in the t, it was a promotion to a better club and more or less a guarantee of trophies, more money and like any job you take it but fans just don't see football as a job, they still expect loyalty.

Personally I couldn't care less if he's there, for a friendly it will be a hostile atmosphere and if I was so bothered about it all I would be making the effort and going!
