It's not must win but we need to show a good performance. If the performance is poor as well as the result it's a worry especially after last season a good showing is needed'"
How did Leeds start last season at home to Warrington?
Was it a good performance despite the loss?

| I would say yes.
Bar one or two mistakes, it was a solid performance.

Agreed, and arguably one of the best performances of last season.
For some reason, that performance in Round 1 last season wasn't affected by the floods and loss of familiar training facilities.

Considering we had a lot of possession and territory but only managed to come out with 10 points when it should've easily been at least 30 then I'd say the warning signs that they hadn't had enough time on the training ground was clearly evident.

| Saints away is never a must win, it's always a bonus two points. The must wins are the next two vs Leigh and Salford, those are the sort of fixtures last year against expected bottom half of the table clubs that really landed us in the middle 8's. We beat Hull and Saints at home but then threw those wins away with losses to the likes of HKR and Wakey at Headingley.

i actually think Leigh maybe the tougher game to win, their first home game in super league and chance to take the big club scalp, it will be a dining out night to remember for them, think it will be a massive banana skin.

| Indeed, though we lost Maguire after one half and ended up with a few others carrying knocks etc.
So the theory of the lack of a preseason and lack of fitness etc were in the general ballpark of being well founded.

I hope so too, must be hard as a professional sportsman or indeed anyone really to go from being so feted to so slated in 3 1/2 months.

| All this talk of tonight not being a must win game is very perplexing.
As a fan we can take this view I suppose but I certainly hope the players don't. Every game is a must win game because if you approach it as anything else it sets an enduring tone.
Leeds are very capable of winning tonight. Whether they do and how they play will be very interesting.

| If we put in a great performance and lose, fair enough. It happens.
If lose due to falling apart, lack of tactics on the 5th, missing key things like goal kickers and proven leaders or silly bench antics then that will show we haven't learned from last year at all.

| Can only see a Saints win, this current Leeds squad is poor for a club of Leeds size, I feel its weaker on paper than last seasons and look how last season turned out. Looks like a battle to avoid the middle 8s for Leeds

Can't argue with that but players should not be dropped due to one bad game and that includes the youngsters.

| Quote: Gotcha "Not really. Performance is key, not result. Early season game, neither team will be up to full speed, but the test for either side is how far behind the other each is.
Even on a good day, and what The Printer alluded to, you could probably expect a loss away to Saints. What's is important is for Leeds to show they are close and put in an encouraging performance. Something not happened often enough last year.'"
