| I still think there's a good player in Callum, he's had horrendous luck with injuries whilst with us.
Having said that I expect Jack Sinfield to be better and that's probably where our eggs are now.

| Quote: GrahamBray "As a Hull fan, sick to the back teeth of the Club's SL showings, I thought he'd end up with someone like Leigh, or even Wakefield, given that Chester was really under the pump at that time. I said when Cas announced it that this is the end of "classy Cas" and he seems to have faith in the players that let him down at Hull, by signing them up at Cas! I don't think the fans will ever take to him, I could be wrong entirely, but I'd expect major disenchantment among their ranks, after 4 or 5 games and he'll be gone before the season end.
At Hull, he had a very expensively assembled good looking squad that proceeded to lose a record number of games on the bounce, it was painful and felt inevitable, he has no plan B, if power doesn't work , try power and if that fails, more power.
I hope I'm wrong, well sort of, but he'll be gone pretty soon I think when it starts to unravel.'"

| Quote: Steves "Good luck to the lad. I think he might get a better chance at Cas but to be honest I don’t think he will be ever a starting/first choice SL half back. He lacks pace and arrogance that good half backs require at the top level.
Someone compared him to Gale not making it at Leeds and then going on to prove us wrong. However his path in to the first team was blocked by Danny, Kevin and Robbie, three rather better than average half backs.
Anyway good luck probably best for all parties.'"
He never looked fit enough - was his heart really in it?

Agree with this Jim and the club certainly see a more promising future by having young Jack Sinfield working his way towards the first team over the next couple of years rather than persevering with McLlelland
I really hope that McLlelland goes onto be a starting HB for the Tigers as he is a good kid

| Once the announce signings of Sezer and Austin Mclelland's were probably numbered. He was offered a new deal but i suspect was derisory.
Pleased that scrums are back as this should bring back attacking options that has been missing for the last couple of seasons. This should suit Austin so will be interesting who the starting half's are.For mine i would start Sezer at 7 Austin at 6.

| Interesting to read that Hurrell might have accepted an offer at Saints even lower than Leeds offered him.
Don’t know if there was a 1-year deal versus a 2-year deal, whether he fancied a change, or whether there’s a bit of nose cutting off to spite face when he was offered much less money here.

| The only way he would accept less money would be the length of the contract.

The Hurrell situation is all a bit weird IMO.
He\s repeatedly said he wanted to stay, then even after declining the contract offer has still said he would have preferred to have stayed and it's not how he wanted his time with Leeds to end.
I would imagine we only offered him a one year deal (same as Martin) and Saints offered him two. His partner seems a really headstrong women, wonder if she had any influence in the decision (pure speculation on my point and don't mean any disrespect in it).
I wonder wether Tolouse would have been a good option for him aswell had he known they would be promoted?

Saints will spin everything the way they want it to be read.
They are the RFL's darlings after all.
Hurrell spent most of his time injured and when he played his defence was a total liability.
GREAT in his first season but quickly worked out (like Parcell, Cuthbertson etc)
If anyone pays him anything close to marquee nowadays, they are absolutely nuts. Newman is a country mile better, as is Broadbent.

I think that's just Saints trying to spin what appears to be a somewhat unpopular signing. The two vs one year deal is decisive. And if they want to stick him in the second row good luck to them.

No but I suspect Hurrell requested for it not to be announced until his Leeds contract actually expires (is that 1st Nov?)
Thats pure speculation mind!

| Thing is, nothing says "we love you and want you to stay" more than a massive salary cut. When someone feels rejected they might well choose any other option.
I suspect it may well have been a 2-year versus 1-year situation, I doubt we'll have wanted to tie up the OS spot on a player with his injury record.
I've seen a few people talk about Konrad in the second row - he's absolutely not a back rower IMO. His ball security is a problem and his fitness would struggle I think. He can put a big hit on in D but you need to be precise and consistent in the pack. I just don't see it working. For different reasons, Liam Sutcliffe is never a back rower either.
Having said all this we'll be crying if Konnie runs through us next year off the back of a better structured and balanced side, on his day he is a real handful.

| Leeds found Hurrell's true role - impact second row forward as close to the middle as possible - sadly it was two years too late

Didn't Hurrell get Dream Team selection at centre in his first season?
To be fair the only player the club has let go that I'm not sure about in retrospect was Paul McShane. Really can't think of many others, we tend to get it right.
