In fact I'd hazard a guess that the HJ has more seats than Wilderspool used to, given the main stand there had terracing in front of it.
And there still is a terrace in the South Stand. It's just about 20% smaller than the existing one. So what's the problem again?[/quote]
Yes they'll be terracing in the South Stand, people get this Andy but you've got 1,300 people coming across from the North Stand as much I don't like to judge I can't see them wanting to create a similar type of atmosphere as we have now, can you?
If it was to have seats surely it would be better the other way around? Seats at the front, Standing at the back?
Don't even get me started on the roof, why does most new builds/stands have to have high roofs?

| If the new stand is finished and looks anything like the picture it will enhance the stadium no end.
There will be standing in the Sth stand - the Carneige and the western terrace how much more standing do the luddites want?
This is 2016 for goodness sake.

| Well there is going to be exhibitions throughout February where everyone can voice there suggestions and concerns, wether that will change minds I don't know.Remember the vote for a club nickname? I didn't realize the North stand was so much reduction on capacity.I wonder if they considered moving a few metres and build both stands a bit further back?

Sorry if I've missed it but what will be the new capacity of HQ when all of the developments are finished?

Seating configurations don't create atmosphere. Fans create atmosphere. There will still be 7,000 people in that stand on a weekly basis. I'm not sure where this idea comes from that anyone who sits down at a sporting event is immediately rendered mute?
I've been in plenty of all-seater stadia with incredible atmospheres for big games (the old Highbury, Valley Parade, Old Trafford etc) so it's nonsense to suggest that if people have their backsides on a seat somehow it will kill it.

| One thing this will put an end to is the moronic "chanting" and foul language from the South Stand, so I'm personally delighted. The new stand will be much easier to police and offenders can be weeded out. Plus one would hope there'll be pressure from fans and families in the seats to keep the terracing below civil and peaceful. Finally the high roof should dissipate any stupid singing into the wind and I'll no longer have to endure it from the North Stand. People can still stand, people can still sit, and if you want to get drunk, jump around and sing you can go to a disco

I seriously doubt any club would be allowed to have a top tier made for standing for health and safety reasons.

I'm not an architect expert but I'd guess the angle/height of roofs nowadays is to do with not having any sight-blocking beams/pillars in the stand and thus the roof is supported differently to older versions.

| Indeed. upon touring Wembley before last year's final, I was intriuged to discover that the arch is there to hold up the roof, so no pillars are needed, and there are no obscured views.

You and some others might not like it but it will be the reason. I seriously doubt any proposed design that featured the seats at the front and standing at the back would get approved whether you wished it would or not.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but what h&s grounds would prevent upper level standing?

Because by the looks of this thread most fans talk out of their so making them sit down will render them mute.

For example the Championship finals day a few back held at the Halliwell Jones. A small fire broke out inside one of the stand and they had to empty the fans onto the pitch. Given a similar situation at a new Leeds South Stand I doubt the preferred setup would be a load of standing fans rushing down onto a seated section.
