I actually thought the coverage was better than last year. The addition of Carney to the team, the dropping of the pre-match preamble through the VIP dining room. Phil Clarke actually doing a pre-match summary that was understandable (particle physics and RL is probably not going to capture the imagination). I also though that the commentary was very fair and entertaining.

Good job from Sky.

Carney was streets ahead of the others.

I thought he was a breath of fresh air. Sky seem to like him, I hope he gets to do more work.

I honestly believe that Sky are innovative (sometime misguided) and forward thinking with their coverage of Rugby League in general.

If you compare their coverage to that of the BBC you’ll see they are streets adead.

The one (technically two) thing that lets their coverage down are dumb and dumber in the commentary box, the longer these two muppets are allowed to spout their irrelevant drivel the longer they’ll continue to spoil the efforts the rest of the Sky team put in.

Talking to the site's most respected poster earlier about this and we agreed that Sky's camera work is far, far better than the BBC's challenge cup coverage but that the BBC's commentary and presentation styles are much better - no pantomime style commentary, no hype.

I am thinking of paying for Phil Clarke to get a lesson in RL rules, his "we should just give him the try" was something else.
