| Quote: rollin thunder "Iestyn, was the one for me, caldwerwood was good but was never going to be truly great, Walker defo could have been great, every bit up there with The worlds best centres
Harris was grea, and if stayed would have been an all time great RL hall of famer.'"
Walker was destined to become a world class back row forward. Lee Smith also jumped ship at exactly the wrong moment - and he knew it. Clever player with a knack of turning up in big games.

| I tried to watch the Leeds v Doncaster game from '95 last night. What a pile of brown stuff. I can see why at the time that team were interesting to watch live - they threw the ball everywhere (mostly side to side and back again), but they also dropped it a 100 times and seemed to want to run into touch at every opportunity. You could see that they couldn't defend either, the new 10 metre rule (which seemed to be 15 at times) was leaving gaps everywhere. I also can't look too closely at Schofield's shorts which seemed to be a slightly different design to everybody else's and considerably "shorter".

Yet people on here tell me the modern day players dont compare with those from that era. I find it laughable.

Depends what you mean by "era". I was talking about one game and one particular Leeds team that was completely gone (apart from Franny Cummins) 2-3 seasons later. I also watched Leeds from '98/99 and they were fantastic. But if you like the game as it is now then great. Nothing wrong with that.

indeed. infact, from the same season i think is the leeds v wigan december 94 game. one of the best games of rugby you will ever see. Wigan on the back of a 13 game winning run and we beat them in a breathless classic with some awesome players on both teams from the time. full game on youtube. probably mentioned in here already but can't be bothered reading all 17 pages.

I remember that game well, indeed it was a classic. I've watched a lot of old games now over the last few weeks and you can see the chaos the 10 metre rule caused for a couple of seasons - especially as it was usually way more than 10. By 98 everyone had gotten used to it, including refs and the game looked more normal. Games from pre 94 look very similar to those post 98, but in-between it's a total shootout.
One thing that hasn't aged well is the Sky commentary. Relentlessly obsessed with forward passes and any minor infringements "missed" by the officials. Stevo was a human headache.

| I noticed that about the commentary too. Things they only manage to spot in super slo-mo are flagged up as massive blunders by officials.

| Watched the 2004 Easter game against Bradford. Non stop action and so exciting - took me right back to being in that full house crowd.
Two non Leeds points though.
1. Stevo - what a negative, opinionated git. Did his best to ruin it for the viewer.
2. It must break the hearts of any Bradford fans who see it to have gone from that top of the table clash to where they are now.

It breaks my heart a bit too. Those derby matches were superb occasions, with massive crowds and excellent atmospheres.

Totally agree, I always looked forward to games against the Bulls. I also think that SL is still financially disadvantaged by their absence from the top flight, they had a huge following home and away.

| Quote: tad rhino "they never had home which was a huge issue money wise. at least half the crowd were on freebies. they handed them out like confetti'" Leeds fans used to kick this myth around a lot back in the day to prove some point about plastic fans. But it wasn't true then and it's still not true now - they certainly did more of it than Leeds did but it wasn't anywhere near half, or even a quarter.
