I thought he took a nasty knock from the as boards when Tom got his second try, but nobody mentioned it & I've heard nothing since.

| Some over-reactions on here.
Ferres played pretty solidly IMO, and Lolohea produced some excellent crisp cut-out passes that led to tries. The problem with Lolohea seems to be that he is lacking a bit of confidence on defensive positioning (and kicking), and he could do with taking on the line a little more. That said I can see him fitting into the team very well given more time to settle in, and perhaps more work on his pace/fitness.
Parcell didn't really add anything when he came on, and still looked to be suffering from his operation. I wonder whether he was forced to play because Furner didn't feel he had better options to bring in.
Not sure what to do about the right edge. Watkins needs time, but at the very least he needs good defenders on either side so he feels confident enough to tackle what's in front of him. Perhaps giving Newman a go for a few weeks? Unfortunately there are too many defensively suspect players to be accommodated in the team at once - Sutcliffe (seemingly attitude/ability), Myler (size), Lolohea (positioning), Watkins (lateral movement due to injury), Smith (?inexperience). Perhaps giving Donaldson more minutes would help here, short of dropping some of these players for those returning from injury. Another decent forward signing would make a huge difference at this point of the season, but we have to find the right player - defensively strong with some x-factor with ball in hand. Tricky to find at this stage of the season.
Hurrell is doing well, but the problem is he's virtually our only credible attacking threat right now which is easy to telegraph, which means he's having to cart the ball in given less space or in heavier traffic, which increases the scope for dropped ball etc.
Worryingly, Merrin was among our top-tackle missers for the game - perhaps he is being asked to do too much at prop?
Watkins - 7
Merrin - 4
Sutcliffe - 4
Cameron Smith - 4
Dwyer - 3

| People do realise that Kallum Watkins had a knee reconstruction a few months ago don't they? Some of the comments are ridiculous.
Patience everyone patience.
We are heading in the right direction but it's going to take time. We're a midtable team that will end the season in midtable that's just the reality of it all.

| The Sky commentators pointed out the high number of tries Leeds had already conceded to opposition props and hookers this season (i.e. soft middle on goal-line defence), as well as highlighting that some of the tries we are letting in are the kind you would expect from Championship teams. Patience yes (especially with Watkins), but these are not the defensive hallmarks of a mid-table team.

Watkins was clearly injured, why wasn’t he substituted?

To be fair Marty that really is no excuse for front on defence, which is what was his problem last night. It might effect his speed running and step, but not defence or taking kicks.

| Quote: Sir Kevin Sinfield "Watkins was clearly injured, why wasn’t he substituted?'"
He seemed to run it off to be fair.
However, the injury was suffered after he ran the ball straight into the middle of the Wakey pack, with 3-4 men in the tackle putting pressure on Watkin's legs as he was turned over. Surely he shouldn't be used in this way until he's a bit fitter? It's no different from the arguments being made against using Stevie Ward as a battering ram. Watkins probably put his hand up to take the ball in but that's not what his role should be IMO; this is what the forwards are for.

| Will everyone please calm down please? This whole rebuilding exercise (on and off the pitch) is going to take several years. We have recently had the greatest period in the club's history (I remember the 1980s and 1990s). Things go in cycles. We follow a great club, we have positive management, we have a ground to be proud of, we have a very good set of youngsters (some of whom will make it, some won't). Thinking about the 1980s, some of the big tussles were with Widnes; be careful what you wish for. An instant return to the 'top table' is not going to happen.

From the South Stand seats the standing area looked very overcrowded. There were lots of people standing on the yellow painted stairways and eventually the stewards just gave up and let them stay them (can't blame them either).

| No surprise really. Wakey have two better wingers, two better half's and 8-13 better than ours not to mention the bench. Our second row of Ferres and sutty must be the worst in the league then throw in average Joes in Briscoe Myler Peteru Singo Donaldson plus3 overweight star signings and that's the result. Sinfield knew last July what mess were in now Furner does.

Furner may be unsure of what to make of the young players as a group, not just Cam Smith. I suspect he's heard all sorts about their potential but may be finding out that players with potential here are some way off players with potential in the NRL.

| Quote: mattsrhinos1978 "We'v had 4 bad results, this one being the worst, the saints one being the only one to take positives from. 5 games in, players form should start to be reflecting in team selection, that and a simple bit of pride in defence, would be the first step back to being competitive, starting with the second row, neither should be anywhere near the 17, they arnt good players playing poorly, theyr just poor players.
Wakey are a good team, but that was pathetic last night.'"
Nah mate would disagree. Warrington and Wakefield were poor performances, but Wigan, Saints and Salford have been, for a transition team, just about acceptable I think. We don’t look near a top-4 side at present, but we do have more about us than most of last year.
You are right that further changes are needed, but that’s what this season is looking increasingly about, rather than us being seriously competitive. We have a really cracking group of young lads coming through, but realistically we might be 4 years away from the Academy tree really bearing fruit.
I’m not convinced we got the right three players when we got excited and opened the marquee wallet, but for me it will absolutely be the youth coming through which will determine our longer term success again, like it was previously.
Then we’ll have another problem with holding those better players at the club. When the Goldens came through the NRL wasn’t as much richer relative to SL as it is now - I wonder whether we’d have been able to keep that team together for as long in today’s climate...
