You could perhaps argue that Ward edges it, simply because he wasn't surrounded by the high calibre of players that Sinfield has to take some of the load off his shoulders.

Most of the Leeds sides that Ward lead had a handful of stars, but never really enough to do more than mount the occasional challenge in knockout competitions. Sinfield has had the privilege to lead some of the best British players of his generation.

Yep it's a tricky one....but Kevin is now without a doubt his equal. I am impressed with his dignity on AND off the field. His post match interviews are always insightful, measured, sagacious, modest, honest and genuinely resepectful of his opposition.

In today's sporting world of dubious examples led by the likes of [iwhat'shisname[/i - the England football captain - he is even more of a beacon of all that is/should be good in sport.

As has been said many times before, not the greatest player in anyone position but as a captain and all round player surely the greatest. He is certainly the best captain and the very best embassador for the game of rugby league. Arise Sir Kevin

Sinfield IMO has been much more influential than Ward IMO when you take into consideration his allround skills including his kicking. Kevin has always played the pivotal 'heads up' role for Leeds and even on his quieter days is always at the heart of everything that goes on. His contribution to our success has been huge and he has the rare ability to regularly be the main reason for so many victories.

Yes I think so too,I was just remembering the regard that the crowd had for Ward at that time,and the crowd will remember Sinfield just the same in years to come

It's gutting that he has never been voted Man of Steel. No player deserves it more. If we go on to win the CC and super league this year he should be awarded a MBE.

Whilst I think he has done enough to already earn such a gong, I wonder if Sir Kev's political belief would stop him accepting it.

MBE, I mean, not Man Of Steel.

His MOS chances have often been harmed, oddly, by his tremendous consistency. There always seems to be somebody else who has a more influential season. But not many who repeat that level of influence year after year after year.

I thought he should have won it in 2005 over Lyon, but there's no denying that Lyon was the more eye-catching player.

I have long since given up trying to convince other teams' fans of his worth. They can, to be frank, collectively do one. My favourite ever rugby player and probably my favourite ever sportsperson. He certainly goes in my top 3 for the latter with Steve Redgrave and Paula Radcliffe.
